His career in design started off by being thrust head-first into the New York City ad world. He soon realized that his love for art and the outdoors was more important and found himself in Jackson Hole, where he founded Wild Iris Press. His work will be displayed at the Pink Garter next month!

  • KHOL - Wilderness Study Area Advisory Board Deadline Friday
    The deadline to apply to serve on the Wyoming Public Lands Initiative Advisory Board is 4 p.m. Friday. The advisory board will advise county commissioners to designate wilderness study areas as wilderness, release the land from protection, or reclassify the land. Seats are expected to last around 2 or 3 years and they need between 13 and 20 spots filled. We talked with one of the Teton County Commissioners, Paul Volgelheim, to learn more.

  • KHOL - Kelli Jones on Inventing "NoSo Patches"
    Kelli Jones is the founder and CEO of "NoSo" patches, which she designed to fix rips, tears, or holes in fabric after tearing her puffy coat on a barbed wire fence. Instead of sending her jacket back to the manufacturer she designed a heat-activated, stick-on fabric patch. Soon, everyone in the Tram Line wanted to know where she got it. Now she has launched her website and has a patent pending.

    What is lost when we don't connect with our landscape while learning? How can we integrate place-based learning that benefits both teacher and student into our schools? As Master Teacher at the Teton Science School in Jackson Hole, WY, Steve Archibald wrote and implemented the K-12 Journeys place-based education guide. He'll be speaking Thursday, September 1st about "the power of multi-generational learning" as part of the ongoing series at the Murie Center in Moose called "Mardy's Front Porch Conversations". That's from 5:45-7pm.

    Tonight at the Center for the Arts, Hole Food Rescue celebrates collecting and redistributing half-a-million-pounds of food that would otherwise go to waste. They like to call tit "excess food" and utilize 85 volunteer hours per week to re-route the goods they collect from around Jackson Hole. We talked with Alison Dunford and Jeske Grave about the organization and food waste in our community.

    Journalist Angus Theurmer from Wyofile to talk about Ice Patch Archaeology and the new face of "Bison Safety" in the National Parks. The first piece reveals how, as ice patches melt and recede, archaeologists have been able to locate ancient artifacts preserved by the cold that would otherwise disintegrate. The second piece reveals "Helvetica Man" and his recent encounter with a bison.

We're a smaller market and not easy to get to, but they've managed to book some very big names and expand the genres of live music we have access to. This week, they're bringing Pretty Lights as well as Fitz & the Tantrums. In September and October we can look forward to Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, The Devil Makes Three, the Dean Ween Group, and more.
