    Rabbi Tirzah Firestone grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family, where female Rabbis were unheard of. Now she is a Jungian psychologist and Rabbi in Boulder, Colorado. We talked about the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah and how it overlaps with maps of consciousness like Jungian psychology. She'll be giving a Shabbat service and dinner tonight at 6:30pm at St. John's Episcopal Church and a workshop on Kabbalah on Saturday at the JHJC Center in the Centennial Building from 9am-11am.

    In 1890, Phillip Wilson's family brought the first group of settlers over Teton Pass into what is now Jackson Hole. 120 years and six generations later, the family runs the JH Rodeo. We talked to Phillip about the rodeo, the culture surrounding a "Western Lifestyle", bull vs. bronc riding, and more. Rodeo season is coming to an end, but you can still witness the tradition this Friday and Saturday night at 8pm.

    Wednesday, August 24th at 6pm, the Strook Public Forum on Sovereign Wealth will take place at the Center for the Arts, featuring economic thinkers and leaders as they try to answer a major question: What is the government's role in managing Wyoming's wealth in the face of declining mineral revenues? We talked with State Treasurer Mark Gordon and the acclaimed University of Wyoming economics professor Jason Shogren about how to manage our reserve funds, what options we have to generate new wealth, how this ties in climate change, and the relationship between Federal and State economic policy as a whole.

    We talked with Rochelle Stanger about a series of talks taking place in Victor, which focus on "neurodiversity" and how diagnoses on the autism spectrum can be viewed in a positive light. We explored resources available in Teton Valley and beyond as well as her own experience with neurodiversity in raising her son.

    Artist Chad Stayrook has been taking part in a residency at local artspace Teton Artlab. His work "is based around the Romantic era of exploration and science. The projects are self-imposed expeditions centered around absurd and impossible ideas, like ‘finding the sublime.’" There's an artist talk and open studio at the Artlab on Thursday, August 24th from 6-8pm.

  • KHOL - Anya Tyson Plays the Accordion and Talks Clark's Nutcracker/Citizen Science
    The multi-talented Anya Tyson from the University of Vermont will give a talk tonight as part of the JH Bird and Nature Club's ongoing series at the library. She'll speak about the importance of the Clark's Nutcracker in Western Wyoming and how student citizen science is a helpful tool in collecting large amounts of data in hard to reach places. She graced us with an accordion/harmonica tune that she wrote to help students identify the birds.

    How can we reduce human-wildlife conflict in the valley? Where does this effort get complicated? What types of ecological impacts arise from such conflict? We talked with wildlife biologist Lindsay Jones from the Teton Wildlife Rehabilitation Center about a talk happening this evening at the Old Wilson Schoolhouse at 7pm on "Coexisting with Wildlife". The event will feature presentations from Grand Teton National Park biologist Sarah Dewey and Renee Seidler of the Teton Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
