Kick Ons

We're feeling Peachy and oh so Keen to bring you a Kick Ons takeover by Wellington's juiciest new music festival Peachy Keen. Get your tickets at sopeachykeen.com to see an incredible line up play Wellington's Basin Reserve - it's the perfect Easter treat. Benee, Gin Wigmore, Paige, Stellar*, Ladi6, Foley, Chelsea Jade and so many more live on April 3rd. This is the festival of our dreams and we are bringing you another two exclusive chats care of Peachy Keen this week - it's about to get fruity.

Surprise, turns out stone fruit is still in season, so we’ve got two more ripe chats for you thanks to Peachy Keen. We’ve crossed another dream guest of our list by chatting with Chelsea Jade.

LA’s loss is currently NZ’s gain, Chelsea Jade is back on our shores and she’s brought her dream pop sounds and unreal dance moves with her.

We to her about: her song writing, creating art in the age of a pandemic, the importance of her female friendships, Hilaria Baldwin and our Lord and saviour, Carly Rae Jepsen.

We sat down with one half of pop duo Foley - Ash Wallace. Along with her bestie, Gabriel Everett, Foley produce hot, hot, hot pop music that we are obsessed with. Their EP 'On My Conscience' was released days before lockdown and their follow up drops March 12. We spoke to Ash about her creative relationship with Gabe, their song writing process and what we can expect when we see them live at Peachy Keen.

We're joined today by Paige, a singer/songwriter whose music has caught the attention of not only Aotearoa but the likes of Billie Eilish and Lizzo. Her EP, Always Growing, earned her a nomination in the Breakthrough Artist category at the Aotearoa Music Awards last year and her performance was one of the highlights of the evening. We spoke to Paige about her music, her love of Lady Gaga and her new found hobby, clay making.

Amber gives us the full run down on Peachy Keen from the line up, to what to expect on the day. She also lets us in to how the concept came to be and why highlighting women in music in Aotearoa is so important. Grab some pals, get ready to boogie and we'll see you there!

You asked, we delivered and BING, BANG, BONG, she's back. We're taking you back to the church of Erin Clare, it's been a full 180 of a year and we caught up with what Erin has been doing since we last spoke. We touch on her song writing process, imposter syndrome, letting go and how much we want to lick our baristas. Finally, after way too long, we invited Vivian Lyngdoh over for chats and sweet Indian treats. Vivian is the founder of Frills, a sell out queer events collective and the Board Chair of Wellington Pride. We spoke to Vivian about immigrating to New Zealand twelve years ago, growing up in India and the amazing work he does for our BIPOC and queer communities here in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. This was such a gorgeous chat about Vivian's culture and lived experience, we know you'll enjoy it as much as we did. Also, sign the petition to Ban Conversion Therapy now!

Surrounded by sequins, feathers and fuelled by a tonne of coffee, we sat down with George Fowler, the face behind drag king Hugo Grrrl. We talked about drag, his recent top surgery, how the pandemic affected his work and how much he loves his cat. Put your tap shoes on, make an extra strong stovetop and snuggle into a crochet blanket for this one.

We spoke to Michael about his young years on the farm in Palmerston (the actual deep south) to accidentally finding his passion for hair and his determination to be the best in the business. Fresh off a weekend of festival going, we're back and ready to rant. Start your engines because we're breaking down the announcement of Drag Race Down Under, discussing How the Sex And The City reboot could diversify and getting our heads around THAT Vogue cover. Get ready to download and debrief with us and remember, unless you’re invited, don’t flick the mullet.

Oh and P.S we need to note that is is *Tish* Cyrus and apologise to the entire Cyrus family and the nation.
