  • How To Raise Emotionally Intelligent Kids I Kari Sutton
Isn’t education a funny thing. Throughout childhood we were taught everything, it seems, that we needed in order to build, create and navigate pathways towards a successful life for ourselves.
We were taught everything from an academic perspective; that being math, science, history, geography…
Don’t know about you, I can’t recall attending a lesson that taught me to understand my emotions, where they came from and how to deal with them.
If anything this is just as important tool for a child to have to enable them to navigate through life and it’s social complexities as any academic one.
But the question is, is this a lesson to be taught in school? Or is this a lesson for the parents to teach?
Today we are thrilled to be joined with Kari Sutton, on this very topic.
Kari is an expert in fostering children's positive mental health. Kari has helped over 25,000 children, parents, and educators with evidence-based strategies, tools and approaches as well as common sense tips that help kids stop worrying so much and to manage their anxiety.
Her expertise has made her an in-demand conference speaker, author and consultant in wanting to foster children's positive mental health.
She will soon be launching her second book “Raising a Mentally Fit Generation”
    We ask Kari questions including:
Do you think it is the role of a school teacher and or of a parent to teach children EQ?
What is emotional intelligence and why is it so important for our kids to develop these skills?
Are EQ and empathy the same thing?
How can we help our children develop emotional intelligence?
So, there many parents in this generation who quite possibly were never taught EQ, how can they then teach their children about something they have never fully learnt themselves?
You mention that Daniel Goleman has identified five components of emotional intelligence, can you go through them with us now?
How can parents start to prevent children from having meltdowns at home and in public?
How can we help children manage their emotions so that they don’t get stuck?
Do you think that when children can identify and express their emotions that it helps them to mature a little?
How can parents teach their children the skills and language that they need to use when communicating their emotions?
How can being mentally fit benefit our children?

Winter is a wonderful time to rest, recharge and rejuvenate with comfort food that can help keep us warm and snug.
Mother earth has incredible ability to supply us with seasonal produce that contains the nutrients our bodies need to consume for optimum health for that time of year.
For as long as humanity has been in existence we have resourceful with what food options we have available and are in season, but due to technological advances, we have had the luxury of eating summer fruits all year round.
This, however, comes with a range of disadvantages including making our digestive system work overtime.
To help us understand the benefits of eating seasonally we welcome back Siobhan Boyle, CEO of Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food.
Siobhan shares great tips how we can make the most of winter produce.

    We ask Siobhan questions including:
    Why is eating seasonally important?
Is it true that produce that is not in season undergoes early picking, cooling and heating. Does this reduces the flavour?
What are your top winter ingredients?
So how can we make the most out of winter produce?
Do you see winter is a great time to get the kids in the kitchen, to learn and be involved with cooking?
What are your favourite winter recipes?
How can manage carbohydrates and comfort food consumption?
I believe that the Good Foundation and Jaime’s Ministry of Food also offer an online program with cooking lessons that teach how to cook delicious and nutritious meals using Jaime Olivers recipes. Can you tell us a little about how we can access the program?

What is the difference between Coronavirus and the other common viruses?
What COVID-19 symptoms should parents look out for that would present differently than a common cold, flu or virus?
Children’s temperature can rise above 37.5 degrees for a multitude of reasons, how do you know when you should seek advice from Medical Practitioner?

There have been a lot of medical papers in the last few weeks highlighting multiple areas of the body aside from the respiratory system that can suffer long term damage as a result of contracting COVID. What should parents be aware of?

Do we have to say affirmations out loud?
Can we do affirmations for someone else?

What are some examples of I am Statements?

    Why are affirmations so powerful?

What are your top tips for using essential oils?
What are your suggestions for the best oils to start with for a family?
Can essential oils cause any harm?
How do people know how to choose the right essential oil?
