Elona Holmes is often in the shadow of her famous family. Her older brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes (I do mess up Mycroft's name as Brigham throughout the whole episode), left Elona at a young age, leaving her mother to raise her. When Elona's mother left all of a sudden on Elona's birthday, Sherlock and Mycroft come back and force Elona to become a proper lady. Instead, Elona finds out that her mother is leading her on a journey to find her. Along the way, she helps finds herself and change in the life that wasn't made for her. 

Note: this episode is much less about the movie but more on talking about women and how women and men have a gap in today's media. This is something that is talked about plenty but this was the podcast episode where I talked about Elona Holmes and the general plot and go ALL In on how we are unique and have our own journeys. 

Based on a true story, a group of eight defendants, charged with the conspiracy to incite violence during the 1968 Democratic Convention, fought their way to help change the system and to show that the government of the United States is much more biased than we believe it is. The eight defendants were Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin (head of the Youth International Party, better known as the Yippies), David Dellinger (leading part in the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam), Tom Hayden and John Froines (part of the organization ("Students for a Democratic Society"), Lee Weiner (also part of the Students for a Democratic Society), Rennie Davis (notable anti-war activist), and Bobby Seale (the head of the Black Panthers). These men helped to change the court and highlight how biased the government really is. 

This video is all about Black Lives Matter and the injustice in our law enforcement system then and now. I really go off the whole time and there are definitely some times where I recompose myself but this video is so special to me because it's way I can share my voice and my encouragement to be proactive and to make a change. 

Social media is something everyone uses now. We all tweet, like, share, and create but what are the implications of social media and its affect on our society? This Netflix documentary goes through the consequences of social media on company monetization, the human model, and the division of society. Today, we'll talk about what social media does to our psyches and how it benefits companies and their algorithms as well as the growth people need to create in order to reprioritize the people instead of the data.   

I also wanted to take the time to say that today (as this podcast episode is shown as public) is my birthday! I am excited that a new chapter of my life is starting and thankful to many people that have helped me along the way. My parents, classmates, teachers, along with my new friends at school and professors. This episode means so much to me because this a moment for advocacy that needs to be said all while getting pretty emotional.

Here we go with another superhero movie BUT with a twist. Sam, an ordinary second-born royal (yes I am talking about princes and princesses), has always hated her role as a princess. She just wanted to enact real change and do something that matters. Then, she ends up in summer school with four other individuals: Matteo, January, Roxana, and Tuma. And it turns out... this summer school was a cover-up to help train these kids with their superpower abilities. These group of kids need to work together to stop an imminent danger coming for Sam's family, especially Eleanor, Sam's older sister who is set to become queen. 

Today, I am joined for the very first time with a guest (who is like my other half with our taste in movies and tv shows): It's April Gabriel! She is philanthropy chair for LUBOS PASO, a group based on spreading filipino culture and the love of a filipino family. She and I talk about our favorite superhero movies, friendships, and the relationships between each of the characters and their development. We definitely get off topic many times but I hope you all enjoy this episode.

In this true-to-life story, Zach Sobiech is a 17 year old kid that has osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. He takes the last year of his life and guides himself through a long journey involving falling in love, making an album to chase his dreams, and tackling his condition as something that is not a part of him but instead, his cancer is something that is just there. Justin Baldoni, star of Jane the Virgin and director of Five Feet Apart and director of documentary series "My Last Days", takes on Sobeich's story in the most honest and raw way possible. He takes plenty of advice from Zach's family, knowing Zach from meeting him in 2013 from an episode of "My Last Days. 

This story is to say the least, inspirational and with so much love. Even though he passed on in 2013, this movie continues this legacy. In this episode, I will be talking about Zach's backstory and his inspiring attitude to chase his dreams.

Hubie Du Bois has always been the biggest loser in his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts. All the kids hate him for how dorky he is and there are definitely some big bullies always around him, putting him down. But when a few people are kidnapped on Halloween, only Hubie can find out the kidnapper and stop them before anything bad happens. Throughout this movie, Hubie gets to know the meaning of true community and finding someone who appreciates him for the person he is. 

In part 2 of my Halloween series for Kilig in Circumstances, I talk about the movie and its randomness, the need to connect as a person to a community, and a little bit on Cameron Boyce and his dedication in this movie. 

Henry Page is a teenager that believes that nothing in high school happens and that everything is boring and mundane. That was until he met a new mysterious girl, Grace Town. He falls in love with Grace and starts a relationship with Grace. As the relationship progresses, there is more and more secrets being held from Henry, breaking out Grace's past and her want to move forward with her life. This movie is based on Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland. In this episode, we talk about how romance can also be just as profound as a chemical reaction as well as curiosity mixed with passion. In reality, romance can be more complicated than the connection is worth.

Mildred Hubble, a witch from a non-witching family, finally gains her stride at Cackle's Witching Academy. If you couldn't already tell, this show is all about magic. Mildred Hubble, with a new look, decides to run for the academy's top position for students, Head Girl. The only problem is Ethel Hallow, Mildred's enemy, is going for the position too. And some future telling water showed a future where Ethel would make all the witches disappear. Mildred Hubble needs to embrace her own way of witching and also win a Head Girl competition to help save Cackle's Academy. 

In this episode, we talk about mutual love, character development, and even a little bit on Harry Potter and its role in magic tv shows and movies today. 

For the first time ever, five countries have worked together in order to reach where no human has set foot before - Mars. Emma Green, the commander of the mission, is also a mom with a teenage daughter and a husband with some medical issues. In leaving for Mars, Wang Lu, Ram, Kwesi, Emma, and Misha (who I refer to as Povpov since that is what his grandchildren call him) all must leave for 3 years and face the struggles of being away not only from family but also the planet. This show has plenty of tension and questions as to if the crew can make it to space but it's all about the way they work together and if they can really get away. Today, we talk about the political and societal divisions between these astronauts, what they have to leave behind, what they are reaching for, the overall goal of this mission, and the connection the astronauts feel as well as the families on Earth, especially Emma's family.
