Kindred Church

Who do you believe God to be? How we answer this question will inevitably effect and shape how we live. Hannah's prayer in chapter two gives us a powerful picture of who she believes God to be. We explore tonight the way God is incomparable, transforming, and victorious and what those characteristics mean for our lives and how we live.

This message is from our Wednesday night service on August 21st, 2024.

We gather on Wednesday nights at 6:00pm at The Establishment in Bradburn (11885 Bradburn Blvd. Westminster 80031).

Tonight we're introduced to Samuel's parents, Elkanah and Hannah, and learn of their difficult beginning. Hannah's remarkable faith, clarity, and resolve put her in the company of other great women of the faith who despite their culture's condemnation and judgement maintain profound hope and demonstrate the kind of trust in God we seek to have. Inspired by her, we ask how our own view of struggle, sin, and punishment should change in light of Jesus?

Who will be your king? This is the guiding question behind 1 Samuel. Stuck in selfish living and only pointed inward, the people demand a king. Well, the saying goes, “Be careful what you wish for”. This book traces the consequences and searches the motivations of that very request. Tonight, we examine what 1 Samuel and the teaching of Paul centuries later tell us about how to be citizens and Christians in our world today.

In seasons of waiting, or storms, or inner turmoil it's easy to wonder, "Does God hear me?" Aisha Cox uses Psalm 116 to remind us of God's posture toward us when we pray. This psalm beautifully pictures how God bends down to hear the voices of his children, and Aisha gently encourages us to consider what we've stopped talking to God about.

Stuart Atkins encourages us with a powerful reminder of God's nearness as he takes us through Psalm 15. What does it take to be close to God? Who gets access? Who is allowed in? These are the questions that prompted David to write this poem, and tonight we explore how Jesus changes how we answer them.

Tonight as we reflect on the many stories and chapters we've journeyed through in John, we are reminded of his main purpose in writing. Above all else what we find in these pages is evidence of Jesus and his identity as the Son of God, leading us to experience real, overflowing, abundant life by believing in his name.

The song of reflection referred to in the introduction is Hallelujah Here Below by Elevation Worship
