I got a job with some of my friends at a place called MANTUA in Ohio. A slightly older Black friend of mine found a ring in gloves we used to work with and he turned it in. It belonged to a White woman, and let me repeat – he turned it in. They say he stole it, but if he stole it, why would he turn it in. She said she thought she lost it, but probably what happened is, it came off when she took the gloves off. That was my first experience of injustice. After strong protests from quite a few of the workers of both colors, my friend was not charged. Welcome to KINGS IN THE MORNING, right here, right now!
