  • 227: Bookclub Review of The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis

Welcome to another episode of the King's Way Podcast Book Club! If you haven't already read the book we're reviewing, don't worry–this could be the talk you need to get you interested in reading it. And if you have read it, welcome to the club!

In this episode, Ryan tells Trevor all about The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis, which includes the books Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength. Through this trilogy, Lewis sets out an optimistic fictional take on space travel and intelligent life on other planets, painting humanity and Earth as the central and greatest enemy of God in the universe, rather than some species out there being worse and stronger than us. Having been written during WWII in the 1940's and before space travel, there are tons of interesting takes on space travel, the makeup of other planets, and different uses of power and government.

  • 224: The Power and Purpose of Music

"But through it all, when there was doubt, I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all, and I stood tall, and did it my way"

"Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world.
She took the midnight train going anywhere."

"'Cause baby now we got bad blood, you know we used to be mad love."

If you can hear the music behind any of these lines of lyrics, then you don't need to be convinced of how strongly music can grip our emotions and imagination. In this episode, Trevor and Ryan sit down to talk about the power music has on us, when and where we should trust and use it, and why we use music in our worship gatherings at church. • 223: What's Preaching All About?

    This episode is for EVERYONE!

While most listeners probably haven't preached much if ever, if you're a committed christian, you've sat through years of sermons in church. What makes a sermon good? What's the right kind of thing to preach about? What's off limits? What does the Bible say about preaching?

These are the kinds of questions that Trevor and Ryan talk about in this week's episode. Our hope is that you walk away from this episode asking better questions about sermons, preachers, and the Bible after every church service you go to! • 219: What Should Christians Think About Israel?

We're stepping into contested territory, and we'd love for you to come with us.

In this episode, Trevor and Ryan have a conversation around the Bible's view of the nation of Israel after Jesus dies, rises from the grave, and institutes the church. They talk about defining fundamentalism in a helpful way, the history of Israelite and Palestinian occupation of that land, whether or not the modern state of Israel is similar to ancient Israel in God's eyes, and how the New Testament talks about God's covenantal relationship to Israel. It's a dense episode, and we totally understand if you walk away disagreeing with us. Either way, let us know in the comments what you learned, fact-checked us on, or found interesting!

**As noted at 33:03, the Scofield Reference Bible claims in the study notes that the Sermon on the Mount that Jesus gives in Matthew 5-7 is ONLY for Jews, rejected by the Jews, and then later meant for the Kingdom of Heaven when God comes back to set all things right. He claims that it is not for Christians.

“For these reasons the Sermon on the Mount in its primary application gives neither the privilege nor the duty of the Church. These are found in the Epistles.” - Scofield Reference Bible notes, Matthew 5:2, Page 1000.
