  • NEW ALPINE SERIES PREVIEW: The endless trauma From The Inside with Janice Newnham

This episode is a preview of the first episode in the new Kintsugi Heroes - Alpine Series Podcast available on podcast platforms and YouTube.

    What is the Alpine Series?

The Black Summer fires in 2019/2020 were devastating in Victoria and around Australia. The ripples of the effects on the environment were catastrophic, but the trauma is still felt by the residents of the alpine region today.

These episodes are intended as a form of recovery for listeners and guests, as key members of the alpine community share their stories and experiences of the fires.

    In this episode...

Janice’s story, a first-hand account of her experience inside the Black Summer bushfires in the Alpine region of Victoria, is gripping and terrifying at the same time. She takes us through the flames with her heroic husband and sons as they battle to save their home, that farm, their animals and support their neighbours and the wider community at the same time. She also discusses the aftermath, the recovery period which still continues for many people as nobody processes trauma at the same pace.

    Biography

I am an active volunteer supporting bushfire recovery of our community, as chair of the Walwa Recovery Committee and have recently self-published two books:  one directly relating our experience of the Black Summer Bushfires, "From The Inside" and the last one is "White Lies" a mystery novel, based on a true story, set in the wake of the 1939, Black Friday Fires. A recurring theme with my first outing into being an author!
