  • former CREEM Editor DUSTY WRIGHT talks KISS

Photo by EDDIE MALLUK -- Decidedly twangy & slightly esoteric New York based musician, producer, writer and former Editor-in-Chief of Creem Magazine, Mark Petracca, aka DUSTY WRIGHT, takes time out to share a few KISS stories from a life on the front-lines of rock & roll ...The curator of Culture Catch, Dusty is as well-steeped an entertainment authority & aficionado as one might ever hope to meet (and a pretty good sport as he leans towards prog rock & punk, and admitted he doesn't own a KISS record!!!). Dusty's worn more hats in the biz than the guys on Bonanza, it's no wonder people call him 'the metaphysical cowboy'. He even ran Prince's fanzine, spending weeks at a time at Paisley Park  ...Dusty takes us from his first hearing "Strutter" on WMMS The Buzzard in Cleveland in '73 to meeting Gene Simmons in '92 to hear the Revenge pitch, stopping off on the way to 'alleged goings-on' July 23rd of '75 when KISS recorded their set in Wildwood, NJ, some of which would be used on their ultimate breakthrough ALIVE! ...I forgot to ask if Dusty's willing now to enlist but his wife did date Paul Stanley at one point so let's call it even. That's rock & roll, thanks Dusty! - KISStorian.com

  • DRESSED TO KILL; pure KISS fun

1975s DRESSED TO KILL was in essence KISS's tightest vision statement to date, a confidently unassuming diamond in the rough waiting to hit it's ultimate mark a year later with the live version of "Rock & Roll All Nite" on their breakthrough ALIVE! -- KISStorian.com

  • a KISS ARMY recruit shares his END OF THE ROAD baptism

Ahh yes, from the mouths of babes ...A long-time rock fan, and yet somehow a KISStoric virgin, 'Preacher Pat', who does tremendous good works with his passion ReclaimedCharity.org (who shipped 86,000 meals to Haiti the same day of the f-gig), tenderly shares his candid impressions from his very first KISS concert from this past weekends' "End Of The Road", purported to be KISS's final stop in Chicagoland, just outside of the city in Tinley Park, IL..  Somewhere just shy of a 28,000 person sell-out Saturday, Pat flew into action by dragging not only his son to the show but his Mom! Such sudden bravado must be commended, in any rank of the KISS ARMY. Enlisted since '78, I hereby submit my solemn referral obo Pat and his family as I believe they are ready to "Shout It Out Loud" - KISStorian.com

  • HOT IN THE SHADE a breath of fresh air

"Hot In The Shade" was a return to 'classic KISS'. By and large its a collection of fun rockers that takes itself a little less seriously, and lies in stark contrast, to their prior release, the 80's-glossed "Crazy Nights". Soon it would all be a mute point as the onset of grunge would send KISS on a fools errand resulting in gloriously heavy but ill-conceived "Carnival of Souls". Indeed, HITS finds KISS on a low budget, trimming sails, vamping up demos and polishing the ballad "Forever" enough to ensure an MTV hit video and a summer tour of the sheds as the band re-positioned themselves as 70's rockers still cool enough to matter at the end of the 80's, no small feat! - KISStorian.com
