KMUSICEVERYDAY

On this week... The vibe starts off normal but halfway through we switch it up. We begin normally with some RnB joints but not from the usual normal rotation of artists. I take pride in trying to bring lesser known artists to the light because there is so much amazing music out there, we just need to discover it.

Whenever I feel as though the episodes are starting to all sound the same, I have to switch it up. So halfway through, we turn to a more indie, rock sound, which is absolutely influenced by the new Hyukoh release. The sound ranges from shoegazing mellow moods to fast paced distortion. So be ready to go on a roller-coaster ride. A nice one, not a scary one. With that said, chill out and enjoy!

On this week...It's a (mostly) true B-Side K-Pop episode. We've got many amazing b-sides, both new and old, from your favorite groups like SHINee, BTS, Pristin V, Super Junior, and Wanna One. I also threw in a couple of throwbacks to keep it interesting. This one came together pretty quick and easy. Hope ya'll enjoy!

I've also noticed more and more new followers joining the KME fam. I just want to thank everyone who listens and enjoys the show. BSKP began as a way for me to stay connected to the Kpop scene but not be beholden to whatever the new, hottest groups and songs of the moment were. Its so hard to keep up! That's why sometimes we play new stuff, old stuff, or have themed episodes. So if you're looking for a little more depth to your Kpop experience, this is the show for you. Also, for anyone who loves Kpop and is curious about other types of Korean music, please check out the KME Mixtape on Wednesdays as well. Enjoy!

First off, we start with the new US single from Jay Park called, "Soju," released on American hip-hop label RocNation and features rapper 2 Chainz. I can't stress enough how important this is not only for Korean music and Korean hip-hop but Asian representation in general. It's amazing and I am incredibly proud of this man's achievements and hard work. So shout out to Jay Park for all his success. I also added his freestyle on Sway In the Morning which is absolutely fire.

After that, we have some new stuff from artists like Jeebanoff, Balming Tiger, Jason Lee, ELO, and Kramp. Also that new joint from H1GHR Music called, "On The Road" featuring Ted Park, pH-1, Woodie Gochild, and Sik-K. Its a good mix of hip-hop and RnB, my favorite kind of episode. Mixed in is a bunch of other tracks I've been sitting on. So...Enjoy!

On this week...I'm playing the tunes that are in my current rotation. There has been many amazing releases as of late. We start with a track of SAAY's new album, "Claassic," which is an absolute knockout of an album. SAAY is a former member of the disbanded girl group "Evol," and since has thrived as a powerful, yet smooth, RnB solo artist. I'm also sharing new joints from BTS, Ja Mezz, Dok2, Swings, Los, B-Free, and Crush. Like I said, a lot of great new stuff out there right now. So groove with this one as it has a little bit of everything. A claassic KME Mixtape if I don't say so myself. Enjoy!

On this week...It's all about the relationship between Hip Hop/RnB and K-pop. I've seen an amazing revolution in the Korean Hip Hop and RnB scene just in the last 3 or 4 years and that has definitely had a residual effect on the K-pop scene as a whole. There seems to be a more authentic hip-hop sound injecting itself into even the most mainstream of K-pop songs. Which is great! Whereas in the past "hip hop" in K-pop often seemed more of a characterization, it has now evolved to a level of understanding that feels more reverent and authentic. While there are still very many issues of understanding Hip Hop and the appropriation of the black community in Korean music, in my opinion, it's in a much better place now than say 5 years ago. Rather than having a "rapper" or two in the group, there's some legitimate lyricists in most groups now. There's new crop of young artists that have grown up with hip-hop being the mainstream sound. All this must factor into this change. So that's what this episode is about. Just some of my favorite K-Hip Hop K-pop tracks, both current and past. Enjoy!

On this week...we go a little bit off the normal path. The reason I started this show, and KME in general, was to dig a little bit deeper into the Korean music scene. This episode I wanted to dig deeper into the question of "what is Kpop?" I've always had a hard time making the distinction of what elements are needed to constitute a "Kpop" song. Or if there is a distinction to be made in the first place. Either way, this week I chose songs I felt really blurred that line. They can be considered Kpop and gain mainstream success, or they can be considered as indie, alternative, or something completely different. All in all, they're songs that I think push the limits of the Kpop and what Kpop could be. Enjoy!

P.S. The end tracks will tie into next week's show where we'll look at the merger of Kpop and Hip-hop.

Every song on this episode has a smoothness and groove to it that reminds me of Crush and his style. We have joints from the likes of Owen Ovadoz, Woogie, Khundi Panda, and more. All Rnb and chill hip-hop vibes on this one. So sit back, relax, light something up and/or drink something (if you're into that), or just lay in bed and look at the ceiling and vibe to this one. But we also have some other unique stuff from Jooyoung, a throwback from Park Jiyoon, and some more hip-hop sounds than usual. The diversity amongst the K-pop world and its artists is vast, so let this show be a testament to that fact. Enjoy!
