As we saw last time, the sins of King Ahab climaxed. He went to battle though warned not to by God's prophet and he died in his chariot! After him his son Ahaziah took the throne. Elijah was still alive though and God still had a purpose for him. A very troubling but miraculous event happens in 2nd Kings 1.

Lights, Camera, Action! We are 28 miles southeast of Sardis, still inland at the city of Philadelphia. This city was built by Tiberius, and now in modern Turkey. Philea and adelphod together mean "brotherly love" in Greek, and thus we have the city of brotherly love. Truly the church was growing in their love for God and for their brothers and sisters in Christ!

Are you sold out to sin, or sold out to God.  1st Kings 21 shows us two very different men.  A man of God and man of Belial; a man of character and a man of sin.  We all need to be sold out to God.  Sell all for Him; sell yourself to Him.  He’s a well-paying Buyer!  The devil is not!  

Lights, Camera, Action:  We find ourselves in another city, more suburban than the previous ones.  This was more inland, and just about 40 miles southeast of Pergamos.  Less busy than other towns, it still had its trades with organized and controlling trade unions.  Thyatira was known for its art of dyeing cloths, etc. This was true for dear Lydia, who was converted and baptized along with others in Acts 16:12-15.  She may have been instrumental in the formation of the church to which this letter was written.  Well, Christ’s letter to Thyatira is the longest, so let’s get right to it!

Elijah is a powerful example of someone who can be used greatly of God but also deal with stress, anxiety, and depression.  These are real issues that must be dealt with.  The Bible gives hope and direction.  Go to God in your lows and let Him raise you up!

The Curtains reopen just north, fifty some miles above Smyrna – we are now in the busy city of Pergamos, a place of education and libraries of many books.  Many believe that the name of this city has the meaning of “thoroughly married”, and this term was almost prophetic of the marriage unequally yoked between the Christians there and the Government.

There's only two offices for the local church: Pastors & Deacons. What is a pastor? What are they to do? What about the terms bishop and elder? This and more is revealed in this sermon!

We pick up today where we left off last week, when God sent the fire down from Heaven.  What a miracle, what a moment, what a milestone in the life of the Israelites!  But God wasn’t done yet.
