    Governor Brian Sandoval and First Lady Kathleen Sandoval will host a State Summit on Prescription Drug Abuse in June. The Summit will provide the opportunity for the First Lady’s Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force, then the Multidisciplinary Prevention Advisory Committee to update the community on existing laws put into place as a result of the 78th Legislative Session, and Nevada’s Strategic Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Plan. The Governor says Nevada has established policies that have become national models in prescription drug monitoring and ongoing coordination between the public and private sector. But there is more work to be done.

    Opponents of Nevada's new commerce tax are exploring whether their effort to repeal it can rebound after a major court setback. Attorneys on both sides of the tax are scheduled to meet in court Friday to determine whether a rewritten version of the proposed measure passes legal muster. The hearing comes after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled last week that a petition to repeal it wasn't worded properly. The 20,000 or so signatures on it were invalidated. Supporters would need more than 55,000 valid signatures on their updated petition by June 21st.

    Lyon county investigators say they have recovered the murder weapon in the Toni Davis case. 55 year old James Hamrick of Dayton is facing an open murder charge. Davis disappeared April 28th, her body was found May 17th. Investigators are not describing a possible motive for the killing, but Hamrick was Davis's brother in law.

  • 5/20/16 12pm - Top of the Hour Newscast
    The doctor at the center of an investigation into prescription drug-trafficking in Reno is getting some support from former Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons and former Reno Police Chief Jim Weston. Both wrote letters on behalf of Dr. Robert Rand before he was scheduled to enter a plea Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court. He's accused of writing painkiller prescriptions for people who didn't need them, including one who died from an overdose last fall. He's currently being held without bail in the Washoe County jail. Rand entered a plea of not guilty in federal court Thursday.
