    Washoe County ranks near the top nationally in deaths from heroin, oxycodone and other opioids, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The CDC reports, between 1999 and 2014, Washoe County had 404 deaths in that category. Washoe County's per capita death rate was 6.2 per 100,000 people. That ranked 158th, or near the top 10 percent. Carson City has 4.8 deaths per capita, and Elko County had 1.5 deaths per capita, the lowest rate in the state. These figures are for accidental deaths and do not include suicides.

    NV Energy, the state Bureau of Consumer Protection and solar companies have agreed in principle that existing rooftop solar customers should keep their cheaper power rates. It's a first step toward possible legislation to protect customers who put up panels before Nevada hit a "Cap" on solar installations from a costlier rate structure implemented this year. Those customers would be grandfathered under the old rate until 2035. The subcommittee of the governor’s New Energy Industry Task Force, will vote on the deal next month.

    United Healthcare, the nation's largest health insurers will continue offering coverage through Nevada's Health Link insurance exchange. The insurance provider had announced earlier this week it would exit most of the "Obamacare" state exchanges, including Arkansas, Georgia and Michigan.

    Officials with the East Fork Protection District say a mobile home in Gardnerville was destroyed by fire early this morning. The residents who lived at the Kingslane Mobile Home Park have been displaced and the American Red Cross is on scene to help them. No one was home when the fire started and no injuries have been reported. No other structures were seriously damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
