    Senators Dean Heller and Harry Reid announced Senate passage of the bipartisan Nevada Native Nations Land Act. The legislation transfers land into a trust for six Nevada tribes: including the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. This will allow the tribes to build housing for members, preserve cultural heritage and traditions, protect natural resources, and provide opportunities for economic development. Reid called it an important step in righting wrongs from our nation's past. Heller says he proud the Senate is empowering Nevada Tribal Leaders, who know best how to use the land.

    The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced that a second man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a September, 2015 armed robbery. 29 year old Christopher Mateo will serve a minimum of 8 years before becoming eligible for parole. A co-defendant, Adam Lavelle Johnson, was sentenced earlier this year to 15 years in prison, with parole eligibility beginning after 4 ½ years. Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges. Mateo was an ex-felon in possession of a gun, which added enhancements to the sentence.

  • 4/15/16 9 PM - Top of the Hour Newscast
    Two people are in custody for their part in a methamphetamine trafficking operation. The Tri-NET task force arrested 42 year old Mardell Maurice Johnson, and 25 year old Desiree Lynn Kissel-Hunziker, on North Carson Street. The pair is charged with multiple counts of level 3 drug trafficking. Nevada DPS spokesman Dave Gibson, says investigators seized nearly a pound of high quality methamphetamine.
