The Washoe County Sheriff's office has called off its search for a woman who was reportedly calling for help on Rattlesnake Mountain last night.

Nevada is requesting 11.3 million dollars from the federal government in hopes of continuing the Children's Health Insurance Program. CHIP is a public health insurance program that helps 27,000 children of low-income parents, but funds officially ran out in September. On Friday the state asked the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services for unspent federal allotments from prior years, to continue running CHIP until February.

Registered Nurses at Barton Memorial and Lake Tahoe Surgery Center in South Lake Tahoe voted by 88 percent this week to join the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United. The tally was 123 to 17 for CNA in a secret ballot election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board. CNA will represent 200 RNs at the facilities that are part of the Barton Health system, covering the Lake Tahoe region.

The recent snowstorm brought enough fresh snow to the Sierras for two ski resorts to open their seasons last Friday. Heavenly Mountain Resort opened after receiving a foot of snow, and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows opened with seven inches. Northstar is planning to open their season on Thanksgiving day. The National Weather Service said Friday that Mount Rose Ski Resort received more than three feet of snow at the top of the mountain after another thirteen to fifteen inches fell on the summit Thursday night into Friday.
