A Reno woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for identity theft. 27-year-old Heather Carey pleaded guilty in June to one count of Obtaining and Using the Personal Identification Information of Another. She was sentenced to prison, despite a defense argument for probation. She has to serve at least four years before being eligible for parole. The case involved the defendant fraudulently using stolen personal identification, checking account data and credit information belonging to the victim. At sentencing, the Washoe County D.A's office argued for a prison term because of how Carey’s actions affected the victim, who is still trying to restore her credit, standard of living and good name.....
