The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has announced a conviction on an attempted murder charge, has resulted in a sentence of 55 years in prison. The prosecution also included charges of burglary and felony battery causing substantial bodily harm from a 2015 stabbing in east Reno, which severely injured a Reno man. 54-year-old Charles Flarida of Reno was convicted was accused of breaking into the home of a friend of his girlfriend and stabbing the man while he slept. The victim was hospitalized for a month for treatment of numerous life-threatening stab wounds, including three to his back. The sentence ensures the defendant must serve a minimum of 19.5 years in prison before being eligible for parole.....

A Reno woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for identity theft. 27-year-old Heather Carey pleaded guilty in June to one count of Obtaining and Using the Personal Identification Information of Another. She was sentenced to prison, despite a defense argument for probation. She has to serve at least four years before being eligible for parole. The case involved the defendant fraudulently using stolen personal identification, checking account data and credit information belonging to the victim. At sentencing, the Washoe County D.A's office argued for a prison term because of how Carey’s actions affected the victim, who is still trying to restore her credit, standard of living and good name.....

A Clark County judge is wondering who’s in charge of the upcoming execution of a death-row inmate who wants his sentence carried out. That's because Nevada's top doctor suddenly resigned and the execution of Scott Dozier is scheduled for Nov. 14th. Judge Jennifer Togliatti says the Nevada Attorney General's office must come up with an answer by Monday. a never-before-tried combination of drugs were approved by the former chief state medical officer, Dr. John DiMuro.
