The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office has gotten approval to launch an in-house tissue donation program beginning early next month.

A man police think has been actively seeking underage females on social media, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor runaway. 28 year old Joseph Martinez was arrested at his address in the downtown corridor Thursday with another female runaway victim. He's facing at least six counts of sexual assault of a minor, one count of lewdness with a minor and one charge of statutory sexual seduction.

Pinon Hill Elementary School in Minden has made a very good list. They have been designated a "National Blue Ribbon School." The award honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. Senator Dean Heller is commending the staff at Pinon Hill and two southern Nevada schools that achieved Blue Ribbon Status.

Senator Dean Heller joined Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado and others, in introducing the Healthcare Tax Relief Act, legislation that delays the ACA's “Health insurance tax” or "Hit" for one year, to prevent higher health insurance premiums. The Senators say if "HIT" is not delayed next year, it is estimated that as many as 100 million Americans could see their premiums increase. In Nevada specifically, the cost of this provision kicking in could lead to premium increases by as much as $500 for Nevada families and more than $500 per couple for seniors and disabled individuals on Medicare Advantage. Additionally, premiums could rise by nearly $150 for Nevadans in the individual market.

A man was killed in a motorcycle accident this afternoon. Shortly after 4:00 this afternoon, Reno Police, Reno Fire and REMSA were called to the 66-hundred block of Echo Avenue on the report of a single motorcycle crash. Officers arrived to find a 50 year old man who had crashed his motorcycle in a parking lot. He was declared dead at the location. An initial investigation indicates the man was riding recklessly in the parking lot and lost control of his motorcycle. Investigators say speed appears to be a factor in the collision, but neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as factors. The name of the motorcyclist is being withheld until his family members have been notified.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office has gotten approval to launch an in-house tissue donation program beginning early next month. The project includes using a portion of the Medical Examiner’s Office for tissue recovery purposes, an additional full-time employee to help facilitate the program, and an agreement with Nevada Donor Network, the only Nevada-based organ and tissue donation agency. Dr. Laura Knight, Washoe County Chief Medical Examiner a says the new Medical Examiner facility was designed with tissue donation in mind. And adds, this reflects a dedication to provide robust services to our community, as tissue donation can save and improve lives.
