A Dayton man has been convicted of first degree murder, in the death of his sister in law. 56 year old James Hamrick was convicted in the shooting dead of 60 year old Toni Marie Davis. Both of them disappeared on April 28th, Mrs Davis's body was found three weeks later. The small caliber weapon used in the crime was also found. Sentencing is pending.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is warning of a scam in which scammers attempt to purchase computer equipment under NDOT’s name. Using a fake but similar e-mail address, scammers have attempted to purchase computer equipment in NDOT’s name without an official state purchase request or vendor solicitation. The scammers then attempt to get the equipment delivered to an /out-of-state/ location - why would you ship equipment to NDOT out of state? One vendor did ship some computer equipment without verification. Any company or individual receiving an unexpected NDOT purchase request without official documentation is advised to contact the purchase originator or call NDOT for verification.

A Reno man made his initial appearance in federal court for allegedly engaging in a $3.5 million fraud scheme involving more than 8,000 fraudulent PayPal credit accounts, bank accounts, and prepaid credit and debit card accounts he created with stolen identities. 46-year-old Kenneth Gilbert Gibson was indicted on ten counts of wire fraud; three counts of mail fraud; ten counts of bank fraud; six counts of access device fraud; and six counts of aggravated identity theft. According to the indictment, between 2012 and 2017, Gibson obtained the identities of multiple victims and used those victims' identities to open unauthorized online accounts, credit accounts, bank accounts, and prepaid debit and credit card accounts to obtain money and property. In total, he allegedly opened more than 8,000 fraudulent and unauthorized accounts with PayPal, to send himself the money.

The dispute over whether alcohol distributors should have the exclusive right to distribute legal marijuana is headed for the state supreme court. The state's highest court rejected an injunction sought by the independent liquor distributors, but also rejected a motion by the Nevada Tax Division to dismiss the case. The court has set oral arguments on the dispute for October 3rd. The voter approved initiative gave alcohol distributors exclusive distribution rights for 18 months, but the Tax Division said none were ready to go at the start of recreational sales, and opened up licensing to others, citing an emergency shortage of product at dispensaries.

The Reno City Council voted create new ordinances aimed at phasing out adult bookstores and strip clubs in downtown and mid town area in the next 5 to 7 years.
