The Nevada Department of Transportation is opening the USA Parkway extension today.

Access from both ends of the USA Parkway will allow drivers to travel the 18-plus-mile roadway extension between I-80 west of Fernley and U.S. 50 near Silver Springs.....

The Associated Press is reporting, Nevada is trying to bqck out of the agreement with the EPA, to allow "Superfund" status at the former Anaconda Copper mine near Yerington.

A man initially refused to stop for a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputy late Wednesday afternoon and then ran after finally stopping his car, prompting a search in northwest Reno. 29 year old Nathan Allen Helmer-Martin, was wanted for a parole violation. He stopped his vehicle along Interstate 80 at McCarran Boulevard and then ran away, prompting law enforcement officers, police dogs and RAVEN helicopter to search for him. A deputy found him hiding and Helmer-Martin surrendered without a fight.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 42-year-old Fernley woman who has been missing since mid-August. Jessica Brooks was last seen in the Spruce Drive area of Fernley around 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16th. Brooks is white about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has hazel eyes and blond hair with dark roots. She has numerous tattoos including a “sleeve” tattoo on her left arm. Anyone who may know the whereabouts or other information regarding Brooks should contact secretwitness.com or Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The Associated Press is reporting, Nevada is trying to back out of the agreement with the EPA, to allow "Superfund" status at the former Anaconda Copper mine near Yerington. Great Basin Resource Watch accuses state of a clandestine effort to make the state the lead authority on the toxic mess, furthering delaying cleanup. The state sent the EPA a formal request on July 31 to keep the site off the priority list. EPA spokeswoman Margo Perez-Sullivan confirmed the agency is evaluating the request.

Reno Police are updating information from a double homicide last June. Investigators say the men shot to death on June 19th were 21 year old Byron Cisneros and 21-year-old Jordan Buggs. Investigators were able to identify a witness who was also an associate of the dead men. That witness reportedly says Cisneros and Buggs planned a robbery that went bad. Police say the two pulled guns on two potential victims they had arranged to meet for some kind of unspecified transaction, however, one of the potential victims also pulled a gun and shot Cisneros and Buggs multiple times, killing both. Police have not said if any charges will be filed.
