A brush fire north of Reno called the Long Valley Fire has burned about 33,500 acres according to Sierra Front, and the fire has moved east into Nevada, into the Fish Springs area. Evacuations are in place for about 12 homes on Fish Springs Road and Winnemucca Ranch Road. Five outbuildings have burned and three residences have been damaged, but no primary residences have been destroyed. In addition, seven vehicles were destroyed. In the interest of public safety the BLM has temporarily closed the Fort Sage Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, near Doyle.

The identity of the woman whose body was found in a cardboard box in a Lincoln Navigator in central California July 8th has been released. She was 29 year old Lorena Gardner of Reno. In custody on unrelated charges is 37 year old Jose Rodriguez of Reno.....

Fire crews are fighting several brush fire northwest of Reno near White Lake and the Nevada/California border. Nevada Highway Patrol is shutting down 395 intermittently in the area to make room for the firefight. Sierra Front reports the fires total about 16 acres.....

The Farad Fire burning near Farad and Mystic, California, southwest of Reno between Verdi and Floriston, is 28 percent contained after burning 747 acres. Crews reported making good progress on Wednesday. Cal Fire is helping the US Forest Service with the firefight. Truckee Meadows Fire is also assisting. The fire is burning on the west side of I-80. Heavy smoke could be seen from much of northern Nevada and on many of the AlertTahoe cameras. There is no word yet what caused the fire.
