Northern Nevada is getting a visit from the Mammovan.

Sparks PD is asking for the public’s help in finding a man who stole money from a Casino on Saturday. The incident happened at the Rail City Casino at about 2:15 p.m. Police say the suspect jumped over the counter at the sports book, pushed an employee to the ground, grabbed some cash and fled the scene. The employee was not seriously injured. The suspect is described as being in his 20s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build and a short beard.

26-year-old Michael Gardner faces multiple felony charges after attacking three Washoe County Sheriff's Office Deputies in Sun Valley early this morning. Around 8:45 a.m. deputies attempted to make a traffic stop for speeding and reckless driving. Gardner, attempted to flee but drove his car into a ditch near the intersection of 5th Avenue and Slope Drive moments after the pursuit started. He exited his vehicle, ignored commands to surrender, then charged at deputies. They used non-lethal force, including a Taser to take him into custody. Gardner is expected to be booked on multiple felony charges including: eluding and resisting a public officer and battery on a police officer.

Local protesters joined another surge of demonstrations across the nation today against President Trump’s executive order on immigration. Organizers estimated nearly 500 people lined the sidewalks on the Virginia Street Bridge in downtown Reno. According to the Reno Police Department, the demonstration was peaceful and no arrests were made. Organizers also called upon Mayor Hillary Schieve to “make statements against the ban, in support of immigrants and refugees and to more clearly establish Reno as a sanctuary city."

Sky Tavern's junior ski and snowboard program opened today, and it was one of the busiest opening days they've seen, according to snow sports director Eric Ruud.

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada is looking into the future of the Reno area in the next five years, and their statistics show more growth on the horizon. From 2012 to last year 141 companies moved to Northern Nevada. 80% ended up in Washoe County, and Storey County got the other 20%.
