An Ohio woman who pretended to be a male war hero, has been sentenced in Washoe District Court, to close to 20 years in prison for burglary and fraud charges, that included submitting false applications for a driver’s license and vehicle registration, as well as falsely claiming decorated military veteran status. 25 year old Kelsie Denise Hoover posed as Michael Cipriani, and claimed she'd won numerous combat medals, even fraudulenty obtaining a "Purple Heart" license plate.

During her State of the City address last night Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve explained that city officials want to improve the quality of life not only in the downtown area, but throughout the entire community. As part of that effort the city is working closely with the police department. Schieve says thirty new officers were recently graduated from the police academy, and 19 of those are newly funded.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve gave her State of the City address yesterday evening, pointing out that 19 newly funded police officers recently joined the department. She says the police department is working to build bridges in the community. As part of that effort the city council has increased policing in the downtown area, by creating walking teams of officers who talk with residents, merchants and visitors to build relationships in the community.

The Washoe County District Attorney's office says 32-year-old David Logue today was sentenced to life in prison in connection with an attempted rape last August. Logue pleaded guilty in November, 20-16 to one count of Attempted Murder, one Count of First Degree Kidnapping, one count of Battery by Strangulation with Intent to Commit Sexual Assault and one count of Attempted Sexual Assault with Use of a Deadly Weapon. He was arrested after an investigation into a violent attack on a Sparks woman in August of last year. Sparks officers were called to an apartment on August 10th where they found the woman who had been beaten and stabbed in the throat. She was rushed to a local hospital. An investigation led to Logue who initially denied responsibility until learning the victim had survived. Logue will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
