Backcountry driving is not advised, authorities are discouraging any unneccesary travel, even in urban areas, where some roads have become impassable.

Washoe County is working with regional partners to warn residents of avalanches in the high-elevation areas due to the inclement weather.

Avalanche danger is very high and officials are advising citizens to stay out of the backcountry until conditions improve. Two skiers were stuck in some falling snow, they managed to get out safely near MT Rose Highway, travel there is also not advised unless absolutely necessary.

A 42 year old Reno man has been arrested, accused of engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a pre-teen neighbor. This was reported last month, and during the investigation Reno Police learned that several other juveniles in the immediate area were also victimized. Christopher Kindler, was arrested on two felony counts of lewdness with a minor. Police say Kindler gained the children's trust by buying gifts and allowing them to spend time at his residence. Police say the friendship evolved into sexual "grooming," and sexual advances. Police believe there may be more victims.

The snowpack in the Mount Rose area has increased by nearly 50 percent in only four days. The Natural Resources Conservation Service measured the snowpack on Mount Rose today (Thursday) at eight and a half feet, more than 150 percent of normal. The measurement on New Year's Day was at 84 percent of normal, and rose to 132 percent today. Meantime, the Truckee Basin snowpack was at 62 percent of normal on Sunday and 129 percent today, more than doubling in those four days.
