Sparks Police have identified the suspect in the deadly officer-involved shooting this week, as Raymond Salaiz. Turns out Salaiz is one of two suspects in numerous hotel room thefts, and a case of first-degree arson at the Nugget Casino. Sparks Police, who are investigating the case, say that at about 5:15PM on Wednesday, Reno Police officers were in the 400 Block of Vine Street near the Gold Dust West investigating a person suspected of committing a recent burglary and arson. There was an altercation involving the suspect, a vehicle, and police. Two officers were hit with the car and sustained minor injuries. Shots were fired and the suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Outgoing senator Harry Reid says he's been offered several jobs, and will decide in coming weeks what he'll do after retiring from his 34-year stint in Congress. Reid says that he's been approached by law firms, and Nevada companies. He plans to maintain a home in Washington D.C. and cited the area's high-quality health care, but he also said he'd spend more time in Nevada when his term ends January 3rd. The senator said his biggest regret in Congress was voting for the Iraq War, which he called the most disastrous foreign policy position in the country's history.

Nevada's new recreational marijuana law doesn't mean showing up at work high is OK, and companies should develop clear policies on marijuana as the new law takes effect. Valerie Clark of Clark and Associates says the health and safety of all employees is a major responsibility for employers, and consistent policies should be applied when it comes to marijuana, with that in mind. Companies can continue to screen out pot users with pre-employment testing, or fire those who show up impaired.
