    Those who celebrated the 4th of July in Virginia City had an interesting evening. About 5 minutes into the fireworks show, embers falling from the sky sparked a brush fire. That fire burned about 5 acres before Story County crews could get control of it. No injuries were reported. The fireworks show was canceled.

    Fire crews made quick work of a brush fire on westbound I-80 near the Goldranch exit this morning. According to Chief Charlie Moore with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection, the wildfire was sparked by a vehicle fire in the area. No injuries were reported.

    A driver who failed to stop for police and drove past barriers into the Wing Fest in downtown Reno was shot and killed by Reno officers Sunday. According to witnesses, the driver had a Reno motorcycle officer behind him when he turned onto Virginia Street and appeared to refuse to pull over for the officer.     Reno Police say the driver shot by police at the Wing Fest in downtown Reno has died. Witnesses say the man failed to stop for a motorcycle officer then tried to drive through barriers into the pedestrian area of Wing Fest. The driver reportedly fired shots into the air and officers on both sides responded by firing shots into the vehicle. Witness reports say the vehicle then crashed into a vendor's tent.     State officials who monitor chemical contaminations at 40 sites in southern Nevada are now preparing for a large-scale cleanup at one that stemmed from a spill at a dry-cleaning shop decades ago. More than 200 homes sit atop a plume created years ago at a dry-cleaning operation. The cancer-causing chemical bled into groundwater after a 1982 spill, and officials say the plume now stretches more than a mile long. State regulators hope to begin extracting the perchloroethylene, or PCE, by spring of 2017. Recently they have installed mitigating systems to keep the chemical out of homes. Regulators are in the process of finalizing that plan with the former owners of the Maryland Square property, who were found responsible to pay for the cleanup.

    Bureau of Land Management officials say A fire burning on the border of Elko and Humboldt counties has reached 70-thousand acres. Firefighters believe a lightning strike started the Hot Pot fire around 3:00 Saturday afternoon. It is burning in a mix of federal and private land in both Elko and Humboldt counties north of Battle Mountain. There are about 200 fire personnel on the scene. The fire is five percent contained at this time and full containment is expected on Thursday.

    Reno Police say the driver shot by police at the Wing Fest in downtown Reno has died. Witnesses say the man failed to stop for a motorcycle officer then tried to drive through barriers into the pedestrian area of Wing Fest. The driver reportedly fired shots into the air and officers on both sides responded by firing shots into the vehicle. Witness reports say the vehicle then crashed into a vendor's tent. Police pulled the man out of the vehicle and immediately began administering CPR. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance where police say he was pronounced dead. Reno Police say Plaza between Center Street and North Virginia will remain closed while the investigation continues.
