Court papers say Dr. Robert Rand, the man at the center of an alleged Opiod Distribution scheme, may be responsible for as many as 60 overdose deaths of patients under his care. He's already being investigated in the death of 33-year-old Michael Yenick, a patient of Rand who died in 20-15. An affidavit in the case says several of the deaths of those who were prescribed narcotics by Rand appear "suspicious." Rand and eight others are accused of illegal distribution of opioids. Rand's defense has filed a motion to delay his trial date and that of the eight other's to June 20th of next year. Prosecutors say they oppose that specific move, but are open to a delay from the original court date of July 19th to any trial date within 2016.

The ACLU is challenging the state's Education Savings Accounts, on the grounds that they violate a state constitutional ban on funding religious purposes. Now they're challenging the expedited timeline to resolve the challenges. ACLU filed an emergency motion asking the state Surpreme Court to reconsider the decision to set arguments in the case July 29th. They'd like to move the hearing to August or September. They say the expedited schedule doesn't give either side time to adequately prepare for the complex and weighty constitutional violations at the heart of the case.
