Twenty-nine companies that relocated to the Reno-Sparks area, and existing local companies that expanded their workforce this year were honored at EDAWN's "New and Expanded Companies" welcome reception. More than 400 local business and government leaders attended the event. One of the recent additions to the region is Asia Union Electronic Chemical Corporation, a manufacturing, purification, packaging, and distribution company dealing with the ultra-pure process chemistry used in semiconductor, flat panel display, and solar cell markets. The new facility is under construction in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center in Storey County, and scheduled to be operational in late 2018. They expect to hire more than 100 employees over the next few years.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a mobile home fire on Leon Drive in Sun Valley early this morning. The first call came in just after 3:30. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded.

Nevada's economic performance in 2017 led the nation in many factors, including a big one. Nevada saw private sector jobs grow by 3.6%, and that's the fastest in the nation, as the state added 40 thousand jobs in the first quarter, over the growth of the first quarter of 2016.

56 year old James Leo Hamrick of Dayton was sentenced for the First Degree Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon in the killing of his sister in law Toni Marie Davis. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole in 20 years, and a consecutive 15 year term for the use of a deadly weapon, a small caliber handun. He also got a year for a distruction of evidence charge. Ms Davis's body was found about three weeks after the April 28th 2016 killing.

A jury has convicted a Washoe County man of multiple counts of sexual assault on a child following a week long jury trial. 61 year old Thomas Goepner of Washoe Valley was found guilty of 5 counts of Sexual Assault on children and one charge of Open and Gross Lewdness. Goepner was arrested on October 20th, 2016 when the 16 year old victim reported she had been sexually abused by Goepner since age 8.
