A motorcycle rider has been killed in a solo vehicle accident earlier this (Thursday) evening. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the male rider hit the side guardrail and was pinned underneath it. Paramedics responded to the scene, and the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead. The crash was reported at about 8:30 this evening on eastbound I-80 just east of Painted Rock Road about 20 miles east of Sparks.

Washoe County School Police are investigating an incident Wednesday morning that led to a car into a fence. Reports of reckless driving in northwest Reno along West 7th Street, brought out police. But the driver of the car did not stop, leading to a short neighborhood chase. The driver crashed through a fence at 7th and Frontier. There were five teens in the car; none reported serious injuries.

A Reno man has been sentenced to two life terms in prison under Nevada’s habitual criminal statute, following convictions for felony DUI and Burglary. The sentence ensures the defendant will serve a minimum of 10 years in prison before being eligible for parole. 38 year old Shaen Gresham was arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol in October of 2011 for driving under the influence of drugs, after he was stopped for operating his vehicle without a front license plate. Gresham’s lengthy criminal history includes 13 felony convictions from both Nevada and California, including DUI causing death.

A Chinese company that makes passenger-carrying drones will be testing its system in Nevada. "EHang Inc." is partnering with the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems to test and develop a smartphone-directed drone service. In EHang's drones, passengers would enter a destination into the system's accompanying app and then take off in the autonomous vehicle. EHang expects to begin testing in Nevada later this year.

A brushfire along I 80 near Patrick grew to an estimated two acres, and was contained in about an hour this afternoon.

Reno fire crews knocked down a brush fire in a field near the SPCA on Spectrum Boulevard in north Reno.

There was a bit of a scare yesterday when the Reno Fire Department went to what what was originally reported as sewage leak. Locals reported a seeing a leak with a strong "sewage smell" draining into the Truckee River, just east of the Arlington Street bridge. Luckily the water apparently came from storm drains caused by a water main leak at 7th and Lodge Street that emptied into the river.
