    The state is planning to do some more homework on the rooftop solar issue. The Nevada Board of Examiners approved nearly $67,000 so a contractor can do another cost analysis, on whether rooftop solar provides a new benefit to ratepayers. Officials with the Public Utilities Commission say the price of utility grade solar has dropped significantly since the last study, and a fresh analysis could inform regulators as they consider rate changes this summer. An earlier study found that rooftop solar systems provide a net benefit of $36 million to the state's ratepayer base, but that it could be a net burden if some market factors changed.

    A woman was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno after a severe beating, allegedly by her son. The 65-year-old victim said her son had beaten her with his fists and nunchuks, and wanted to kill her. She told deputies her son was off his medication. Her injuries appeared substantial but are not life-threatening. 40-year-old Douglas Taladay was taken into custody at the scene. According to authorities, Taladay admitted he and his mother had argued over yard chores, then got angry and beat her with the intent to kill her. Taladay is in custody at the Carson City Jail, charged with Attempted Murder, Battery With a Deadly Weapon, Elderly Enhancement, and Preventing a Victim from Calling 911. His bail is set at a-half-million-dollars.
