The Storey County Sheriff’s Office says a man has died after a work-related accident at Menezes Brothers, Inc. near Lockwood. Authorities say the incident involved a hay bale compressor. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity and additional details about the incident are not yet being released.

A Reno charter school threatened with forced closure because of its financial problems has found a way to stay open and cut costs by $200,000 a year. The news comes as a relief to staff and students of Rainshadow Community Charter High School. Earlier this year, teachers of the small, privately run school agreed to forgo their salaries for two months so the campus could finish the academic year. Money problems result from the price of rent at the school’s location, 121 Vesta Street. The school pays $17,000 a month for the Midtown building, which comes to a little more than $200,000 a year, according to Principal Toby Wiedenmayer. Rent has been a quarter of the school’s expenses, which is more than it can afford with 113 students.

The state is planning to do some more homework on the rooftop solar issue. The Nevada Board of Examiners approved nearly $67,000 so a contractor can do another cost analysis, on whether rooftop solar provides a new benefit to ratepayers. Officials with the Public Utilities Commission say the price of utility grade solar has dropped significantly since the last study, and a fresh analysis could inform regulators as they consider rate changes this summer. An earlier study found that rooftop solar systems provide a net benefit of $36 million to the state's ratepayer base, but that it could be a net burden if some market factors changed.
