The first thing you may have trouble with when you arrive in Japan is getting around from the airport.

Listen to the conversation and think about the words that apply to the blanks.

日本に来て一番はじめに困るのって、空港からの移動かと思います。

会話を聞いて、空欄に当てはまる言葉を考えてみてください。

You：すみません。

相手：はい？どうかしましたか？

You：新宿駅まで行きたいんですが【_____】行けばいいですか？

Answer is Two! ‘どうやって いけば いいですか？’ is natural Japanese.

Repeat after me.

"どうやって いけば いいですか？"

There are many other ways of saying this.

You can say, for example, ‘新宿まで、何で行けばいいですか?’.

Start by learning one phrase first!

そのほかにも言い方はたくさんあります。

例えば「新宿まで、何で行けばいいですか」とも言えますよ。

まずは一つ、フレーズを覚えるところから始めてみましょう！

The answer is "背伸び".

'Doing more than you are capable of' is expressed in Japanese as 'せのびをする'.

 Sometimes this is an important attitude, but it can be hard if you always do "せのび", so study hard, step by step!

「実力以上のことをしてしまう」ことを、日本語では「背伸びをする」と表現します。

ときには大切な姿勢ですが、背伸びをしすぎると辛くなることもあるので、勉強も一歩一歩がんばりましょうね！

It is almost time for more summer events in Japan. Many people probably think of fireworks “うちあげはなび” when they think of summer.Do you know the words that are uttered when watching fireworks? Think of three hiragana letters.

日本では、そろそろ夏。イベントが増えてくる頃です。夏といえば、打ち上げ花火を思い浮かべる人も多いのではないでしょうか。

打ち上げ花火を見るときに口にする言葉があるのですが、わかりますか？ひらがな３文字で答えてください。

The answer is “たーまやー！”.

You may hear them as they are still passed down to this day.

In addition to ‘たまや’, they also call out ‘かぎや’. Both of these are the names of famous firework makers representing Edo.

今も受け継がれている掛け声なので、聞くことがあるかもしれません。

「たまや」の他に、「かぎや」と掛け声を出したりもします。どちらも、江戸を代表する有名な花火屋さんの名前です。

In fact, I recently started Postcard Crossing. It is difficult to express when writing letters. I always have a hard time with it.

実は最近、私はポストカードクロスイングをはじめました。手紙を送るときの定型文って難しいですよね。いつも迷ってしまいます。

In japanese, when writing letters,for example,”お身体に気をつけてお過ごしください “or “それでは失礼します”. Of these, 'ごじあいください' is convenient to use regardless of the position of the person you are dealing with, be it a close friend or superior.

日本語の場合は「お身体に気をつけてお過ごしください」や「それでは失礼します」などと書いたりもします。

ご自愛くださいね、は親しい人や目上の人、相手の立場に関わらず使えて便利です。

If you often exchange letters with someone, you might write to them as follows.

"また手紙を送るね"

よくやりとりする相手なら「また手紙を送るね」と書いたりもします。

"しよう" means "method". This includes the meaning "to give up". It is used when there is nothing more you can do about it.

これは、"しようがない"という言葉が変化してうまれました。「しよう」は「手段・方法」という意味です。これが「なくなってしまう」つまり、「あきらめる」という意味を含みます。もう打つ手がなく、自分ではどうすることもできないときにつかいます。
