On Christmas Eve we celebrate God’s love coming into the world in Jesus Christ by looking at what is perhaps the most famous of all Christmas carols, “Silent Night” and reflecting once more on the miracle of the incarnation – the Word made flesh – as recorded in Luke 2. In a broken world, Emmanuel arrives with good news of the peace he brings. We’re invited to wonder at the dawn of redeeming grace, to worship, and to put our trust in Him.

This episode we read and reflect on the account of Jesus' birth in Luke 2 and look at the words of the Christmas carol "O Little Town of Bethlehem." There's an amazing line in that song -- "the hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight" -- and we'll ask ourselves how Jesus meets us in our anxiety and in our longing for a better future.

There I found an unusual recommendation in Matthew 3:1-12 the account of John preparing the way in the wilderness. The question the text provoked for me was are we waiting correctly? In this final episode of our Apstle's Creed series, we'll consider the ALREADY/NOT YET of God's purposes. Jesus has already come, but his promises are not yet fulfilled. He has already declared healing for all the nations, but his Kingdom of peace and justice has not yet been established. The Holy Spirit has already empowered the church, but we have not yet realized the perfect holiness and unity to which we are called. Neither Presbyterian nor Pentecostal, ALREADY/NOT YET is a big, biblical idea that can help pave the way to greater spiritual maturity for all of us.

Maybe the most important question for all followers of Jesus and for us at Kortright is this: Who does God want us to be as the community he has called together in Christ and where is the Holy Spirit leading us next?
