The massive immigrant detention center in East El Paso is set to close, according to Congresswoman Veronica Escobar. Tuesday’s Primary Election started with technical issues for some voting centers that experienced problems with the voter-check-in electronic pads.

Polls are open for about another hour until 7pm. Anyone in line before that time will be able to cast a ballot. Remember you can vote at any location. The El Paso Democratic Party was concerned that a problem this morning caused confusion and discouraged people from voting.

The El Paso City Council took several steps to challenge rate increases from utilities today. The council voted to have the attorney’s office appeal a decision on Texas Gas’ proposed rate increase.

There’s a last-minute flurry of candidates visiting El Paso as early voting wraps up for the March 3rd primary election. The Democratic frontrunner in the governor’s race Gina Hinojosa visited El Paso a few weeks ago.

El Pasoans are heading to the polls to make their choices for federal, state and local offices. Early voting in the March 3rd election ends this Friday. The city of El Paso, El Paso Association of Fire Fighters and International Association of Fire Fighters Local 51 have entered collective bargaining negotiations.

When President Donald Trump addresses Congress for his State of the Union address, El Paso’s Congresswoman will not be in attendance. Veronica Escobar said she will boycott the address later this evening.

Statewide early voting in the two primary elections shows participation from Democrats is outpacing Republicans. U.S. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and state representative James Talarico paid a visit to El Paso over the weekend.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say to expect winds to pick up Friday morning. The El Paso City Council postponed a vote on a proposal worth just over $584,000 dollars toward the design of a Downtown Deck Plaza over Interstate 10.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for West Texas including El Paso and Southern New Mexico. Gusts up to 55 miles-per-hour are expected to return today, as is blowing dust.

Strong winds brought down trees, disrupted power service and closed the landfill early today. There is also intrigue statewide after Republican state lawmakers redrew districts last year to try to flip the Democratic-held seats.
