Forecasters with the National Weather Service say to expect winds to pick up Friday morning. The El Paso City Council postponed a vote on a proposal worth just over $584,000 dollars toward the design of a Downtown Deck Plaza over Interstate 10.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for West Texas including El Paso and Southern New Mexico. Gusts up to 55 miles-per-hour are expected to return today, as is blowing dust.

Strong winds brought down trees, disrupted power service and closed the landfill early today. There is also intrigue statewide after Republican state lawmakers redrew districts last year to try to flip the Democratic-held seats.

The El Paso City Council voted to have the attorney’s office call for a rehearing over a proposed rate increase from the Texas Gas Service. Also, the Public Utility Commission of Texas sided favorably with the city over a proposed additional charge to El Paso Electric Customers.

Concerns about a new detention center in far East El Paso are growing. Voting rights advocates are warning, President Trump could try to take over the 2026 midterm elections.

The Federal Aviation Administration lifted a temporary flight restriction grounding flights in the El Paso area. The Trump administration says it took action after a quote “cartel drone incursion.”

Most members of the El Paso state delegation signed on to a letter challenging the Texas Education Agency’s proposed consequences for schools and districts where students conduct walkout protests. Students in El Paso said they’ve led protests at the end of school days denouncing ICE operations in the area and across the country.

With a unanimous vote, the El Paso County Commissioners Court has committed to a project that would connect Bob Hope Drive to Gateway and Loop 375 on the East Side.

Commissioners with the Texas Railroad Commission OK’d a proposed rate increase for Texas Gas Service customers in El Paso. City officials had argued El Pasoans will bear the brunt of costs for the utility compared to other users in Texas Gas’s proposed merged markets.

At the direction of the El Paso City Council, the city manager and attorney will draw up plans to oppose new Immigration Customs and Enforcement facilities from being built within city limits.
