What's in a name?

In today's episode, we bring Celebrate March to a close with a look at my name. Yes, it is my birthday as well this month, and although I do not have the influence the rest of the people I highlighted this month have had, I still think there is an interesting origin behind my name. So strap in as I take you to the magical land of 1993 to discuss the films Dragon: The Story of Bruce Lee and the iconic 90s film The Crow. We also turn to the etymology of the name "Brandon" and see what Urban Dictionary has to say to understand the meaning behind my name.

In the review, we breakdown the ending of the film, how we would have liked to see it end, we talk about how Miyagi and Daniel have a Luke Skywalker and Yoda like relationship, and I get fired up over the song "You're the Best."

With the Lunar New Year just a few days away, as we start the Year of the Snake, I have sat down to review the iconic Jackie Chan film Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. In this review, i go over a brief history of the early career of Jackie Chan including how important this film and the year 1978 was in his career. I also talk about how this film and Drunken Master establish a new blueprint that many martial art films still follow, including The Karate Kid. After reviewing the film proper, I talk about how one of the main quotes in this film resonates with me in my own matial artist identity.

In the first film review of 2025, I sit down to review the 1974 blackploitation film Black Belt Jones starring Jim Kelly, Scatman Crothers, and Gloria Hendry. After walking through the main plot of the film, I dive into what I enjoyed with this film, while also exploring some of its faults as well. In edition, I do a brief walkthrough of the career of director Robert Clouse and the impact he had on American martial art films in the 70s-90s.

Recently, the trailer for the upcoming Superman movie dropped and it got me thinking about how James Gunn has a great opportunity to appeal to us, the martial arts movie goer, in this new relaunch. In this episode, I appeal to James Gunn with his love for B superheroes and lay out a whole pile of DC martial art superheroes that he could use. From fan favorites, to returning characters from other DC projects, to even one that he has already used, DC has a great opporunity to appeal to the martial artist in the new DCU.

An American Ninja? There's no such thing.

Welcome to my dojo, this is Kung Fu Pizza Party. In today's review, in honor of International Ninja Day, I sit down to discuss the 1980s cult classic American Ninja starrring Michael Dudikoff. In the review, I talk about the work of director Sam Firstenberg and fight choreographer Mike Stone, look at the growth of Dudikoff as a martial artist, and I give my hot take on 80s action films. I also talk a lot about what is an actual ninja vs the way ninjas are typically portrayed, and how that symbolizes our biger issue with replacing actual history with the stories we want to tell ourselves.
