    Squaw Valley hosted the Ski Alpine World Cup over the weekend. Organizers say that one of the main goals of holding the race is to inspire the next generation. Our contributor Ky Plaskon spoke has the story. Perched high above a sea of spectators on a slick slope of snow, is a thin nylon tent. Inside, the racer stomps her feet like a bull and bangs her polls together. Only a plastic start gate stands between her and the 600-foot drop.   • Bill Could Leagalize Pot Consumption in Public Places
    State lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow local governments to decide whether adults will be able to use recreational marijuana in public places. Nevada could soon become the first state to legalize the consumption of marijuana in public places. Senate Bill 236 would allow city and county officials to decide to permit short or long-term pot consumption at casinos, bars, outdoor events and other public places as long as they are not within 1000 feet of a school or community facility

  • Changes May Be Coming To Reno City Elections
    A bill making substantial changes in how Reno residents elect city council members is making its way through the legislature. Assembly Bill 36 amends the Reno Charter by redrawing the city’s five wards and adding a sixth district. The measure would also do away with the current at-large seat on the council and make all city elections ward-only. In other words, candidates for the council will no longer have to run city-wide. The change is in line with how most municipalities in the state run
