Mira Robertson began writing The Unexpected Education of Emily Dean in the 90s, but at the time, she couldn’t make it work. The award-winning screenwriter, who worked on Only the Brave and Head On, has now returned to this story of a girl banished to the country during her mother’s illness, while World War Two rages half a world away.
