Harriton High School on the Main Line has suspended its varsity football program, just days before the second game of the season.

Officials cited concerns over health and safety, given low player numbers.

Pennsylvania’s two recent measles deaths are not included in the CDC’s latest update on its website. The agency said it is still reviewing “additional information regarding the circumstances and causes of death” for the two cases.

It said the available information “does not establish whether measles caused or contributed to the deaths or whether the individuals died from other causes while infected with measles.”

The Pennsylvania Health Department said one of the two dead is an infant.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has questioned whether the deaths happened at all. Gov. Josh Shapiro accused Kennedy of going down a “rabbit hole” of conspiracy theories and false claims. Kennedy, in turn, accused Shapiro of fearmongering.

Because of a delay in state test scores, the Philadelphia School District is pushing back its timeline for applications to magnet and criteria-based schools.

Normally, the state Department of Education releases PSSA and Keystone test results in August. But this year was the first time the PSSAs were administered completely online, and PDE says the results won’t be verified until later this fall.

Students need those test scores to apply to criteria-based schools. The District’s school selection process was originally set to open on September 8, but now the application window will run from Oct. 5 to Nov. 24.
