  • Flames rip through Monto apartment building, displacing residents and forcing closure of nearby school
The two-alarm fire started just before 4 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Gardens Apartments on Main Street, near Church Road and Memorial Park in Lansdale.
Officials say 14 people were forced from their homes. They were taken to nearby Lansdale Catholic High School.
The high school posted on social media that it was closing for the day to help those displaced by the fire. The school is operating on a "flexible instruction day" so students can learn without going to school.
Officials say eight apartment units were damaged in the fire, but fortunately, no one was hurt.
Investigators believe it may have been caused by faulty electrical wires.

New Jersey and New York are suing the Trump Administration over funding for the Gateway Tunnel Project, an underground rail tunnel between New Jersey and New York City.
The White House froze $16 billion late last year.
With no money to pay for the project, construction is set to stop on Friday without court intervention.
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill says this is a political stunt that is playing with the lives of workers and could cost the states billions for a project already approved by Congress.

  • Campaign manager accused of filing fraudulent nomination petitions in race for Pa. Auditor General
"That's not my signature" --- That, from a judge, was a clue to investigators that 'something was up' in the race for Pennsylvania Auditor General.
The Chester County DA has now filed charges against a Philadelphia woman, accusing her of filing fraudulent nominating petitions.
40-year-old Mariel Kornblith-Martin had served as campaign manager for Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley.
The Democrat lost in the 2024 primary for Auditor General.
But authorities say they found many forged signatures on the petitions that got his name on the ballot.
Among them, the Inquirer reports: a judge, two Coatesville City Council members, and a West Goshen Township supervisor.
Kornblith-Martin is out on bail and awaiting a preliminary hearing later this month.
Pinsley is not charged. He's now running for Congress in the Lehigh Valley.
