More than three years after the first Kia challenge video taught TikTok users how to steal South Korean cars using little more than a USB connector, Kia and Hyundai remain at the top of the insurance industry’s list of most-stolen vehicles.
In fact, the top-five favorites of thieves are built by one of those two automakers, even though those carmakers have fixed the hardware issue that made them easy to take.
There are regional differences though, in which cars are likely to be gone in 60 seconds. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most-stolen vehicle in Michigan, the Honda CR-V in New York State, and the Chevy Silverado in Texas.
And while the overall auto-theft rate did decline last year, the Hyundai Sonata remains the favorite target of car thieves nationally. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)
