Ils ont été Rocky Balboa, Terminator ou Lyon Gaultier. Et s’ils ont fait carrière au cinéma grâce à leurs muscles, ils ont trouvé, avec des séries comme Tulsa King, Fubar et Jean-Claude Van Johnson, des rôles leur permettant de montrer également leur facette comique. « Ils », ce sont Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger et Jean-Claude Van Damme et ce sont les héros aux gros bras de notre reco du week-end.
Fraîchement sorti de prison après 25 ans d'incarcération, l’ancien chef de la mafia new-yorkaise, Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), dit « Le Général » est obligé de s’exiler à Tulsa afin de reconstruire un nouvel empire criminel. Une entreprise qui s’avère bien moins facile que prévue : pendant ces deux décennies passées derrière les barreaux, le monde a bien évolué et Dwight, considéré comme un « ancien » doit désormais aller chercher le respect qui lui était jadis conféré d’emblée. Surveillé de près par le FBI et la police locale, il va devoir faire preuve de délicatesse pour retrouver son statut de baron de la drogue tout en essayant de recruter une équipe qui ne s’est jamais réellement frotté à la criminalité. Créée par Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) Tulsa King est une série oscillant entre humour noir et violence brute, portée par un Sylvester Stallone en grande forme. Après une première saison qui avait été saluée aussi bien par la critique que le public, Tulsa King est revenu avec huit nouveaux épisodes à voir tous les dimanches sur Paramount+ jusqu’au 8 janvier 2025.
Luke Brenner est un brillant agent de la CIA qui a enfin décidé de prendre sa retraite. Son programme ? Passer du temps avec sa famille qu’il a trop négligée et reconquérir sa femme qui l’a quitté il y a 15 ans. Mais ses projets sont bousculés lorsqu’il est appelé pour une nouvelle mission particulièrement délicate. Une mission qui va se révéler être une grande surprise pour le héros puisqu’il va tomber nez à nez avec sa fille, elle aussi agent de la CIA. Après le choc initial, le duo décide de travailler ensemble, mais leur collaboration professionnelle va rapidement se transformer en règlement de compte familial. Avec Fubar, Arnold Schwarzenegger renoue avec l’humour, sur le petit écran cette fois, et fait montre d’une aise étonnante dans ce registre. À ses côtés, sa fille jouée par Monica Barbaro lui tient la dragée haute côté humour, en jouant un personnage multi-facette, tiraillé entre la nécessité d’accomplir une mission importante et le besoin d’explications d’une fille à son père. À sa sortie en mai 2023 sur Netflix, la série avait provoqué un véritable raz de marée. Et si aucune date n’a encore été confirmée pour découvrir les nouveaux épisodes, on sait que Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity dans Matrix) rejoint le casting de la fiction.
Et si vous découvriez que Jean-Claude Van Damme n’était pas réellement une star de cinéma ? Qu’il était en réalité un agent secret se faisant passer pour un acteur mondialement connu afin de profiter des tournages pour mener à bien ses missions ? Si on vous disait que son vrai nom était Jean-Claude Van Johnson et qu’après des années d’inactivité, il avait décidé de reprendre du service ? Voilà le postulat étrange – mais qui sied parfaitement à Jean-Claude Van Damme – de la série du même nom. Si l’acteur belge n’est pas étranger à l’auto-dérision, il trouve dans cette fiction un rôle lui permettant de mêler des scènes d’action, dans lesquelles il excelle, à des situations de pure comédie. Sortie en 2016 sur Prime Video, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, la série, n’est pas allée plus loin que les six épisodes disponibles sur la plateforme de streaming.
Une reco du week-end qui va sans doute vous donner envie d'aller pousser des poids !
Qui a dit que les dirigeants de ce monde devaient être nécessairement sérieux ? Certainement pas les séries de cette nouvelle recommandation qui ont réussi à insuffler de la comédie dans un genre souvent associé au drame. Jean-Pascal Zadi, Kate Winslet et Nils Othenin-Girard sont les héros de ce tour de force qui prouve que la politique peut aussi être drôle !
Après une altercation filmée avec Eric Andrei (Benoît Poelvoorde), maire de Bobigny, Stéphane Blé (Jean-Pascal Zadi, également créateur de la série) se retrouve candidat aux élections présidentielles, poussé par un directeur de campagne (interprété par Éric Judor) aux intentions troubles. Novice en politique et profond outsider, Stéphane se retrouve confronté à de nombreuses situations qu’il ne sait pas vraiment gérer, donnant ainsi lieu à une comédie surréaliste et furieuse. Lancée en janvier 2023 sur Netflix, En Place a immédiatement séduit aussi bien la critique que le public qui ont vu, là, une parodie intelligente des arcanes de la politique. La deuxième saison proposée depuis le 29 août 2024 – et qui voit Stéphane à la tête de l’État français – n’a entamé en rien l’engouement généré par cette fiction pour le moins originale. Une originalité transcendée par un casting vertigineux composé, outre les personnages principaux, de Marina Foïs dans le rôle d’une candidate écoféministe, de Panayotis Pascot qui incarne Jérôme, le conseiller d'Éric Andréi mais aussi de Fary, Raphaël Quenard (qui apparaissait dans la reco sur les séries médicales) et même Alain Chabat.
Europe centrale. Elena Vernham (Kate Winslet) est une chancelière autoritaire et excentrique, convaincue que le palais dans lequel elle et ses équipes vivent est infesté de moisissures. Obsédée par sa santé et obnubilée par l’idée que ces champignons causeront sa mort, elle se tourne vers un soldat mystérieux, joué par Matthias Schoenaerts, afin de mesurer la qualité de l’air. Mais leur relation, de plus en plus intime, va causer du trouble au sein de son mariage avec Nicholas, incarné par Guillaume Gallienne, et peser sur ses décisions politiques. Le Régime est une mini-série HBO, disponible sur Max en France, lorgnant avec succès du côté de la satire politique. Avec son interprétation outrageusement exagérée d’une dirigeante bien trop excentrique pour régner sur un pays, Kate Winslet parvient à conférer à son personnage une facette comique rare pour ce genre de série. Là encore, la fiction déclinée en 6 épisodes réunit un casting international de haut vol en embarquant également Hugh Grant et Martha Plimpton.
Dans une France où la monarchie absolue n’a jamais été abolie, un événement cataclysmique vient secouer le royaume : un accident d'avion emporte l'intégralité de famille royale. Alors que le pays est en deuil, un secret enfoui depuis des années refait surface. Samia (Nadia Roz), une enseignante d'origine marocaine, apprend que son fils, Cédric (Nils Othenin-Girard), né d'une liaison avec le défunt Prince-Héritier Baudoin, est le légitime héritier du trône. Ce jeune homme de 16 ans, loin des fastes de la cour et des enjeux de pouvoir, se retrouve propulsé à la tête de la France, sous le nom de Louis XXVIII. Uchronie particulièrement jouissive, Louis 28 est une comédie tendre, certes, mais qui n’hésite pas à apporter de vraies réflexions sur la manière dont est désormais traitée l’information, sur le populisme, mais aussi sur des sujets comme l’homosexualité ou l’avortement. Un équilibre subtilement conservé durant les dix épisodes que dure la série, disponible sur france.tv slash.
Trois séries qui ont toutes de quoi nous réconcilier avec la politique !
Un accident dramatique qui décime des familles et révèle des secrets longtemps enfouis, un politique mexicain qui semble au-dessus de tout soupçon s’avère intimement lié à un cartel de drogue et des envoyés du Vatican qui se lancent sur les traces d’un prêtre disparu, à l’origine de nombreux miracles : si les trois titres inclus dans la reco de la semaine prennent leurs origines d’un et même pays, le Mexique, elles offrent des intrigues suffisamment éclectiques tenir en haleine les seriephiles fans de suspense !
Ce qui aurait dû être une journée festive d'anniversaire se transforme en cauchemar lorsque le château gonflable loué pour l'occasion s'envole. Le bilan est catastrophique : trois enfants meurent, une autre est introuvable et le reste est profondément traumatisé par ce qu'ils ont vu. Et alors que les familles tentent de donner du sens à cette tragédie et d'en gérer les répercussions, un détail relevé dans une vidéo de la fête va changer la donne. Et si cet accident n'en était pas un ? Accidente est une série prenante rondement menée, succès surprise de Netflix, qui happe le téléspectateur grâce à une tension toujours très fermement maintenue, des apparences souvent trompeuses et des failles braillement exploitées. Une série mexicaine, qui se décline en 10 épisodes, proposée en intégralité sur la plateforme de streaming depuis le 21 août.
Disponible sur Prime Video, la série mexicaine El Candidato nous plonge dans les méandres de la politique mexicaine, où corruption et pouvoir s'entremêlent dangereusement. L'intrigue tourne autour d'Isabel Alfaro, jeune agent de la CIA recrutée par Wayne Addison, qui se retrouve confrontée à une mission délicate : faire tomber Rafael Bautista, un baron de la drogue particulièrement puissant et influent qui travaillait à l'époque pour l'agence américaine. Au cours de sa mission, Isabel va découvrir les liens étroits qui unissent le monde de la politique et celui du narcotrafic. Elle se rend compte que le candidat à la mairie, Lalo Yzaguirre, présenté comme un homme intègre et honnête, est en réalité impliqué dans des affaires très opaques. Une fiction en 10 épisodes, là encore, qui ne laisse aucun répit au public entre des sicarios sans pitié à l’origine de massacres sanglants, des prises d’otages sous tension et une éthique dont Isabel va devoir se délester pour jouer au même niveau que ses adversaires.
Thriller, drame et mystique : Les Émissaires est une série qui jongle habilement avec les genres sans jamais se perdre dans des futilités scénaristiques. L'intrigue de la première saison se déroule à San Acacio, une ville mexicaine reculée, où deux émissaires du Vatican, les pères Simón Antequera et Pedro Salina, sont envoyés pour enquêter sur des miracles attribués à un prêtre. Mais à leur arrivée, ledit prêtre disparaît mystérieusement. Que s'est-il passé ? Les deux envoyés, aux personnalités opposées, vont devoir collaborer pour percer les secrets de cette petite communauté et comprendre les raisons de ces événements surnaturels. Au fil de leur enquête, ils se retrouvent confrontés à des habitants méfiants, à des forces obscures et à leurs propres doutes. Lancée en 2021 sur Paramount+, la première saison de 8 épisodes a été un succès et 8 nouveaux chapitres ont été commandés puis mis en ligne en décembre 2023.
Trois très bonnes séries mexicaines qui nous offrent une perspective différente du pays à découvrir rapidement !
Qui a dit que la rentrée devrait nécessairement marquer la fin des vacances ? A fortiori quand on est fan de séries et que des fictions comme Reef Break, Beecham House ou Grand Hôtel existent ! Vous l’aurez compris, pour la reco de la semaine, on prolonge votre été avec trois titres qui ne manqueront pas de vous faire rêver !
Sous le soleil australien, Reef Break nous plonge dans l'univers palpitant de Cat Chambers (Poppy Montgomery, FBI Portés Disparus), une ex-surfeuse professionnelle qui revient sur l’île de Reef pour témoigner contre l’homme qui a voulu la tuer quelques années plus tôt. Son séjour insulaire va finalement se prolonger lorsque ses talents impressionnants de voleuse et son instinct infaillible vont attirer l’attention du bureau du gouverneur qui va la recruter de manière officieuse pour résoudre des affaires délicates. Épaulée par l'inspecteur Wyatt Cole (Desmond Chiam) et son ex-mari, l'agent du FBI Jake Elliot (Ray Stevenson), Cat s’avère extrêmement douée pour ce nouveau métier auquel elle va prendre vite goût. Procédural classique mêlant action, drame et romance, chaque épisode de Reef Break se concentre sur une enquête en particulier, le tout sur fond de plages paradisiaques australiennes. Annulée au bout d’une saison de 13 épisodes faute d’audiences suffisantes, la série est à voir sur la plateforme de streaming M6+.
Beecham House nous transporte en Inde, à Delhi, à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. John Beecham, incarné par Tom Bateman, un ancien soldat britannique de la Compagnie des Indes orientales, décide de laisser derrière lui son passé tumultueux et d'entamer une nouvelle vie. Il acquiert ainsi un magnifique palais, où il installe sa famille ainsi que toutes les personnes nécessaires au fonctionnement de la demeure. Mais dans une Inde politiquement bousculée, la maison Beecham va susciter de nombreuses jalousies, et le secret de John, le maître des lieux, risque fort d’être dévoilé, mettant ainsi en péril sa famille et l’équilibre qu’il cherche à maintenir coûte que coûte. Conçu comme un « Downton Abbey indien », Beecham House n’a malheureusement pas su combler les expectatives et malgré un cliffhanger astucieux, la série a été annulée à la fin de la première saison de 6 épisodes. 6 épisodes à retrouver désormais sur TF1+.
Bienvenue au Grand Hôtel de Miami Beach ! Un établissement de renom qui permet à la famille Mendoza, les propriétaires, de vivre dans un faste absolu. Aussi, quelle n’est pas leur surprise lorsque les enfants Alicia (Denyse Tontz) et Javi (Bryan Craig) apprennent que leur père Santiago (Demián Bichir) a décidé de vendre l’hôtel sans leur en avoir parlé au préalable. Un affront qu’ils ont du mal à digérer, d’autant que l’affaire appartenait à l’origine à leur mère, désormais décédée, qui a toujours clamé haut été fort sa volonté de garder l’hôtel dans la famille. Des tensions vont donc éclater au sein du clan Mendoza, notamment entre les enfants et Gigi, leur belle-mère (jouée par Roselyn Sanchez) qui permettent de faire la lumière sur la vente très opaque de l’hôtel. Disponible sur Disney+, Grand Hôtel est le remake américain de la série espagnole à succès du même nom. Mais malgré des intrigues lorgnant clairement du côté du soap, des secrets ne demandant qu’à éclater et des guest de renom (Eva Longoria également productrice exécutive de la série ou encore Katey Sagal), la série n’a pas su trouver son public. ABC, la chaîne de diffusion américaine, a choisi de l’annuler au bout de 13 épisodes.
Trois séries, trois destinations de rêve pour continuer, même virtuellement, à être en vacances !
Angleterre. Une liste mystérieuse de noms découverte sur une victime récemment assassinée. New York, 1896, une série de meurtres secouent la ville de New York. Sud de la France, 1963 : un détective à la retraite reprend du service suite à l’assassinat de plusieurs religieuses. Le Cheval pâle, L'Aliéniste et Mister Spade : trois séries spécialement concoctées pour les fans d’enquêtes d’époque et servies par Canal+ !
Dans la lignée de Pourquoi pas Evans ? et d’Un meurtre est-il facile ? qui est directement entré dans les séries d’août à ne pas rater, Canal+ continue de nous gratifier d’adaptations télévisuelles de romans écrits par la reine du crime : Agatha Christie. Parmi eux, Le Cheval pâle, une mini-série en deux épisodes librement inspirée du livre éponyme, qui met en scène Mark Easterbrook (interprété par Rufus Sewell), un jeune veuf qui peine à se remettre de la mort accidentelle – et particulièrement étrange – de sa femme survenue un an plus tôt. Alors qu’il tente de reprendre goût à la vie dans les bras de sa seconde femme Hermia (Kaya Scoledario, Effy dans Skins) et de sa maîtresse Thomasina (Poppy Gilbert) il va se retrouver happé dans une sombre histoire de meurtre ! Son tort ? Son nom ainsi que celui de son amante sont apparus sur une liste retrouvée dans la chaussure d’une jeune femme découverte morte dans la rue. Alors qu’il réalise que chacune de ces personnes commence à disparaître, il va être contraint d’enquêter pour résoudre ce mystère.
À New York, à la fin du XIXe siècle, un spécialiste des maladies mentales, un « aliéniste », le Dr Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl) est sollicité pour enquêter sur une série de meurtres particulièrement brutaux. Aidé de John Moore (Luke Evans), un illustrateur, et de Sara Howard (jouée par Dakota Fanning), une jeune secrétaire de l’hôtel de police, vive et téméraire, Kreizler va plonger dans les bas-fonds de la ville pour traquer un tueur en série. Écrit à l’origine par l’écrivain new-yorkais Caleb Carr, L’Aliéniste est devenu une série en 2018. Lancée sur la chaîne américaine TNT, la fiction s’est conclue au bout de 18 épisodes tous disponibles sur Canal+ !
Mister Spade, Sam de son prénom, détective privé rendu célèbre par le roman noir, Le faucon maltais écrit par Dashiell Hammett, reprend du service, bien malgré lui, dans cette mini-série franco-américaine déclinée en 6 épisodes à voir sur Canal+ et qui prend place dans les années 1960. Presque dix ans après être tombé amoureux d’une Française et de la France, le détective incarné par Clive Owen coule des jours heureux en Aveyron. Cependant, son passé le rattrape rapidement lorsqu'il est confronté à une série de meurtres mystérieux dans son village d'adoption. Entre passé et présent, Spade devra démêler les fils d'une intrigue complexe afin de découvrir la vérité. Une fiction sombre qui parvient à conjuguer l'atmosphère énigmatique des romans de Hammett à un contexte français plus intimiste. Une production internationale qui nous permet également de retrouver Denis Ménochet dans le rôle du chef de la police, mais aussi Louise Bourgoin et Chiara Mastroianni.
Trois séries qui vont feront plonger dans des univers et des époques aussi différents que passionnants !
Un Rick et Morty version animé japonais, des aliens pragmatiques qui s’écrasent au fin fond de l’Amérique et doivent faire face à des absurdités quotidiennes qu’ils ne comprennent pas ou encore des extraterrestres qui vivent sur une planète inconnue ressemblant étrangement à la nôtre : voici le menu de cette reco du week-end qui propose des séries animées ayant toutes un goût de Rick et Morty !
Pour les fans des séries d’animation, la conclusion de Rick et Morty a marqué la fin d’une ère qui aura duré sept saisons. Sept saisons durant lesquelles Rick Sanchez, un scientifique génial et alcoolique, et son petit-fils Morty Smith, un adolescent anxieux, auront happé les téléspectateurs dans des aventures interdimensionnelles jalonnées de réalités alternatives, de créatures bizarres et de situations absurdes. Et si toutes les bonnes choses ont une fin, force est de reconnaître que l’idée de faire renaître la série, d’une manière ou d’une autre, était particulièrement alléchante ! C’est désormais chose faite avec Rick et Morty – L'anime, que nous avions insérée dans les séries du mois d’août à ne pas rater, à découvrir sur la plateforme de streaming Max. Une version supervisée cette fois par Takashi Sano, qui prend le relais de Dan Harmon, co-créateur de la version originale en 2013. Son objectif ? Fusionner l’esprit décalé de Rick et Morty avec les codes esthétiques des séries d’animation japonaises, le tout en imaginant dix nouvelles intrigues inédites !
Quand un groupe d’aliens vient s’écraser dans une ville rurale de l’Amérique profonde, leurs réactions face à cet imprévu vont complètement diverger ! Korvo (Justin Roiland), ne voyant que la pollution, le consumérisme et la fragilité des Hommes n’a qu’un seul objectif : réparer le vaisseau et retourner le plus rapidement possible sur sa planète. Terry (Thomas Middleditch), Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) et Jesse (Mary Mack), eux, se font parfaitement à cette nouvelle vie, télévision, malbouffe et loisirs compris, qu’ils trouvent particulièrement à leur convenance. Le choc des cultures, avec tout ce que cela entraîne de cynisme et d’incompréhension, est au cœur des intrigues de Solar Opposites, qui a été renouvelée pour une 6e saison ! Et si cette fiction est particulièrement proche de Rick et Morty, c’est que Mike McMahan, le co-créateur, a écrit plusieurs scénarios de la série-mère !
Co-créé par Dan Hamon, Strange Planet narre les aventures quotidiennes d’une bande d’extraterrestres aux apparences simples et aux couleurs pastel vivant des expériences humaines tout à fait ordinaires, sur une planète ressemblant étrangement à la Terre, mais avec une perspective totalement décalée. Chacun des dix épisodes de la saison 1 explore ainsi des émotions nouvelles, des relations sociales inédites ainsi que des événements de la vie sommes toutes communs, mais avec une naïveté et une curiosité désarmantes. Et c’est là que réside tout l’humour de Strange Planet : dans le décalage entre la perspective naïve, voire premier degré, des personnages et la complexité des Hommes. Et petit clin d’œil sériel : parmi les voix des aliens, on retrouve Danny Pudi qui jouait Abed dans une autre série créée par Harmon : Community.
Une reco du week-end qui fait la lumière sur des séries d’animation actuelles et déjantées de grande qualité dans la veine de Rick et Morty !
Une victime de meurtre qui enquête depuis l’au-delà sur son propre crime, une bande de copains prêts à commettre des larcins pour atteindre leur rêve et une héroïne atteinte du trouble du spectre autistique qui devient soudainement la reine de la fashion week : les séries mises à l’honneur dans cette nouvelle recommandation, à visionner sur betaseries.com/tag/paramount-plus, Disney+ et Netflix, nous permettent de découvrir l’adolescence sous trois prismes différents.
Qui a tué Maddie ? C’est la question au centre des intrigues de School Spirits, une série fantastique disponible sur Paramount+ qui a la particularité d’avoir comme enquêteur principal, la propre victime du crime ! En effet, Maddie Nears (Peyton List) est une adolescente décédée dans des circonstances mystérieuses qui se retrouve coincée dans un monde intermédiaire. Problème : elle n’a aucun souvenir de sa mort ! Aussi, décide-t-elle de résoudre elle-même son meurtre à l’aide d’un autre groupe d’esprits qui, comme elle, hantent son école, ainsi que deux de ses amis, Simon (Kristian Ventura) et Nicole (Kiara Pichardo) qui sont capables de la voir. Une série à mi-chemin entre comédie – notamment grâce au groupe de discussion qui prend place dans l’au-delà – et mystère avec l’enquête sur le meurtre de Maddie, qui pourrait cacher une vérité bien plus effrayante, et ses indices savamment distillés.
Elora (Devery Jacobs), Bear (D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), Cheese (Lane Factor) et Willie Jack (Paulina Alexis) sont quatre adolescents amérindiens bien décidés à quitter la petite ville d’Oklahoma dans laquelle ils ont grandi pour se rendre en Californie. Prêts à tout pour réaliser leur rêve, ils acceptent des petits boulots, pas toujours très légaux, pour amasser l’argent nécessaire à leur projet, tout en faisant face aux défis du quotidien inhérents à la vie dans une réserve. Relations familiales complexes, respect des traditions amérindiennes et aspiration à une vie meilleure, Reservation Dogs décrit avec humour la vie souvent compliquée des adolescents qui se sentent à l’étroit dans un carcan bien trop exigu pour leurs ambitions. Les trois saisons de la série co-créée par Taika Waititi (producteur, entre autres, de What We Do in the Shadows) sont à voir en intégralité sur Disney+.
Sans doute la plus légère des trois séries de la reco de la semaine, Geek Girl est une série en 10 épisodes, signée Netflix, qui se penche sur la transformation physique d’Harriet Manners (Emily Carey), une ado brillante mais peu adaptée socialement. À mille lieux de s’intéresser à la mode, elle est pourtant repérée par un agent, lors d’une sortie scolaire, et devient mannequin, à sa plus grande surprise ! Entre jalousie de ses pairs, premiers émois amoureux et responsabilités trop lourdes, Harriet va réaliser qu’être le centre de l’attention n’est finalement pas de tout repos. Une série mi-fable, dans laquelle le vilain petit canard se transforme en charmant cygne, mi-morale, le poids soudain de la popularité n’est pas toujours facile à porter, dont les dix épisodes se regardent avec délectation !
Trois teen shows profondément actuels qui proposent des points de vue différents sur les affres de l’adolescence !
Les Jeux olympiques de Paris continuent et nous en faisons de même avec notre nouvelle reco du week-end. Nous avons choisi des séries sombres qui mettent en avant la corruption et la violence fictionnelles qui régissent des activités telles que le basket-ball, le cricket ou encore les courses hippiques.
Clipped nous plonge dans les coulisses des Los Angeles Clippers, une équipe de basket-ball en quête du titre de champions. Une équipe qui se retrouve au cœur de la tourmente alors que Donald Sterling (Ed O'Neill, Modern Family), le propriétaire des Clippers, déclenche une véritable tempête médiatique suite à des remarques racistes enregistrées à son insu et diffusées dans le monde entier. Ethan est un adolescent de 17 ans habitant au Cap, en Afrique du Sud. Loin d’avoir l’existence insouciante que son âge lui permettrait de mener, il est contraint de travailler comme chauffeur pour Damien, un parrain local redoutable afin de subvenir aux besoins de son jeune frère. Pris au piège dans cette spirale de violence, Ethan cherche désespérément une échappatoire. C'est alors qu'il découvre le spinning, un sport automobile extrême qui consiste à réaliser des figures acrobatiques avec des voitures délabrées. Ce nouveau passe-temps devient bien plus qu'une simple distraction pour le jeune homme qui voit là une opportunité de s'élever au-dessus de la misère et de prouver sa valeur. Portée notamment par Cantona James qui joue le rôle d’Ethan, Spinners est une série d’action sud-africaine pleinement maîtrisée qui met en valeur les rues du Cap grâce à une esthétique léchée et des scènes de spinning rondement menées. La bande originale, composée essentiellement de morceaux électroniques et de hip-hop, contribue à créer une ambiance urbaine dynamique et immersive. La première saison, composée de 8 épisodes, de Spinners s’est conclue le 15 juillet sur Canal+ mais la série est toujours disponible sur myCANAL.
Seconde Guerre mondiale. David Sterling, joué par Connor Swindells (Adam dans Sex Education), décide de recruter des soldats jugés les plus indisciplinés par leurs supérieurs afin de former une unité un peu spéciale : le SAS (Special Air Service). Sabotage, infiltration, embuscades, aucune mission n’est trop périlleuse pour ces Rogue Heroes (comprendre des héros non-conformistes) ingénieux et courageux qui, à chaque épisode, doivent faire face à une nouvelle épreuve. Une série britannique de bonne facture qui offre un casting intéressant avec notamment Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy dans Game of Thrones) et l’actrice-danseuse Sofia Boutella. En attendant de voir la deuxième saison prévue pour 2024, les 6 premiers épisodes de cette série oscillant entre action et histoire sont proposés sur myCANAL.
Fiction française mêlant drame social, thriller et aventure, Guyane met en scène Vincent Ogier (Mathieu Spinosi), un étudiant en géologie, qui débarque en Guyane donc, afin d’effectuer un stage au sein d’une société d’extraction d’or. Ce qui devait être une simple expérience professionnelle va se transformer en aventure dangereuse au cours de laquelle Vincent va découvrir une mine abandonnée qui va un peu trop intéresser Antoine Serra (Olivier Rabourdin), le parrain local de l’or. Ici, le changement de vie se fait malgré la volonté du héros, presque comme une nécessité, puisque Vincent doit faire fi de ses savoirs théoriques pour s’en remettre à son instinct afin de naviguer dans les méandres d’un monde violent et corrompu dont il ignore les codes. Mais au-delà de l'intrigue policière, Guyane aborde également des thèmes importants comme l'exploitation des ressources naturelles, les conséquences environnementales de l'orpaillage illégal ainsi que les inégalités sociales.
