  • EP 51: Paris History Avec a Hemingway (Camille Claudel)

    Send us Fan Mail

The story of Camille Claudel is one of heartbreak and sadness. A genius of an artist she never got her due and ended her life alone.

At just 12 years old she began to play with clay and her talent got the attention of artist Alfred Boucher. Her father supported her pursuit and agreed to move to Paris so she would be able to study under Boucher. Her mother on the other hand did not and never would support her.

Her talent would get the attention of Rodin and the two would be linked in every biography written about either one. As his muse, lover and assistant Camille would help create many of his most famous pieces while Rodin took credit for her work.

Camille Claudel's story is a hard one without a happy ending. Today she has been rediscovered and given all the love and accolades she deserves, sadly all too late for her to ever know.

  • EP 49: Paris History Avec a Hemingway (Edith Piaf)

    Send us Fan Mail

Edith Giovanna Gassion Piaf, born on her doorstep as the story she stuck with on December 19, 1915.  A very tough childhood after her mother abandoned her, a grandmother that gave her wine instead of water and another that raised her in a brothel.

Through all of this, she became one of the most beloved French singers in the world. To this day you would be hard-pressed to find someone that hasn't heard her music or know her name.

Her life was filled with sadness and tragedy but her voice lifted up generations and still does today.  Madame Piaf took her last breath on October 19, 1963, at the young age of 47. Merci Madame for all the wonderful music and cementing your voice to our beloved Paris and France.

    Send us Fan Mail

Johanna Bonger van-Gogh a name you may not know, but without her, we would never know her brother-in-law, Vincent.

Married to Theo van Gogh, art dealer, and brother to Vincent van Gogh for less than two very short years. When Vincent and Theo died just six months apart, she was left with an infant and an apartment filled with paintings. Told they were worthless and to toss them out, her love and devotion to the brothers wouldn't let her part with them.

Over the next thirty-five years, she would take on the mission to build the legacy of Vincent. Through the letters he sent Theo, she was able to direct the narrative of his life that was all but unknown.

If it wasn't for the love and dedication of Johanna we would never know the beauty of Vincent van Gogh.
