Ladies Talkin’ Leafs

Not a busy week for games, but there has been quite a bit of news regarding the Leafs roster, some good and some not so good. It’s also the quarter mark of the NHL season, so we're going to get into our impressions as we approach this all important first evaluation point! 

In this episode we discuss the most recent games with a recap of their matchups against Vegas and Utah. Then we dive into the team's performance as we approach American Thanksgiving. In particular, we highlight the much improved defense and continue our love-in with the goalies. Of course there are still concerns, particularly regarding player injuries, and scoring depth, and Chris expresses her worry over Auston Matthews' participation in the 4 Nations Face-off tournament.

To close the show we touch on a couple of NHL teams that have surprised to this point--one that has disappointed and one that is exceeding expectations, and wrap up with a quick look ahead at what's up next for the Leafs.

As we head into December, the schedule will pick up again with games every other night. Its the most wonderful time of the year! It may be snowing but we'll all be cozy under our Leafs blankets watching the Buds. Go Leafs Go!

In this episode we dive headfirst into the Leafs news of the week, some of which was not good.

We begin with the "Good, Bad, and Ugly", breaking down the highs and lows of the Leafs' recent performance, where the team's growing ability to dig in, their still stellar goaltending, depth scoring concerns, and the battle to find chemistry on the third line, are all on the table.

What a difference a week makes!

In this episode of Leafs Quick Hits, we discuss the Leafs latest stretch of divisional games. We open the show highlighting the impressive streak of prospect Easton Cowan and the return of Fraser Minten, both feel good stories. Then we get into the Leafs recent showdowns versus their original six rivals, focusing on their on-fire power play and the impact--or not--of injuries to key players like Auston Matthews and Max Pacioretty. Then we award our latest LTL Star of the Week with a spotlight on Mitch Marner, showcasing his leadership and performance in the absence of Matthews. It’s November and that means the Leafs should be turning a corner soon, since in the past few seasons they have had really good win-loss records in November, so let's hope that continues! We are just past the 10 game mark on the season, and its been an up and down so far.

In this episode we discuss the Leafs' performance over the first part of the season, highlighting key players, goaltending and the new look defense. It's always good to start with the positives and we do just that with our latest instalment of the LTL Highlight Reel with a nod to a couple of snipers, as well as the breakout star making all the stops.

Then for the Third Period, we welcome back to the show our LTL Insider Mike Augello to give us his thoughts on Brad Treliving's latest moves, as well as what he thinks may be coming given the looming roster crunch. The potential trades of players like Ryan Reeves and Nick Robertson, the contract situation of Matthew Knies, as well as the constant buzz surrounding Mitch Marner's future are all fair game. In addition we all weigh in with our thoughts on the coaching style of Craig Berube and what we've noticed about how he is handling the roster so far.

What a week it’s been! Started off great, but now, unfortunately, there is some familiar trouble in Leafland!

In this episode of Leafs Quick Hits we discuss the Leafs' recent performance, analyzing the highs and lows over this latest segment of games. We look into the impact, or lack there of, of their key players, particularly Mitch Marner, and the struggles of the power play. We also touch on our impressions of Craig Berube's coaching style so far, the defensive pairings, and player evaluations leading into game number 10. Despite the lack of results overall this week, there are still some milestones and we celebrate Morgan Reilly's 800th game! In addition we give our opinions of the NHL 4 Nations Face Off jerseys.

To wrap it up we reveal our Star of the Week with a nod to Matthew Knies, and then have a look ahead at whats ahead for the Leafs with another busy week coming up starting with a tough matchup vs the undefeated Winnipeg Jets.

Leafs Quick Hits is our newest show format where we'll be giving you our recap and fanalysis of the Leafs games from the past week. In addition, at the end of each show we will name a Star of the Week, so you will definitely want to stick around for that!

This past week's segment was quiet for the Leafs with only 2 games on the docket. The first vs. the L.A. Kings and then a Saturday night tilt vs. the NY Rangers.

In this recap we focus on what is up with the power play, dive into player roles, and the impact of the fourth line. We take a closer look at a couple of players as well, evaluating the play of Pontus Holmberg, and Nick Robertson over this small, two game sample size.

Then we get to the moment you've all been waiting for, naming our first ever Star of the Week, and for this segment the honours goes to goalie Anthony Stolarz, who wowed us with his impressive play!

Finally we wrap up the show with a look ahead to upcoming games. This next week will be a lot busier with another 3 games in 4 nights, including a back-to-back with Tampa and Columbus. We've got a bit of momentum going, and we can't stress enough how important it is to maintain it as the season progresses. The NHL season is now underway for real, and each team is now playing for keeps. Its still early, but we all know that missteps in the early days can spell disaster in April so every point counts.

In this episode we're going to cut to the chase and review the Leafs first 3 games, but first we kick things off with a brief introduction to us and our show. Ah, its sure awesome to have meaningful games on the calendar, knowing there will be hockey to watch every week for the next six months and beyond! This is an interesting time for the Leafs, as they make Berube's new system their own. There will be ups and downs no doubt, but it is already apparent that the foundation is being built. Welcome to our first regular season episode of Leafs Quick Hits!  The NHL regular season has already started over in Europe with the Devils and Sabres playing in Prague. The regular season in North America gets going on Tuesday, with our Leafs hitting the ice for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday! 

We have a very special guest joining us to get us ready for opening Night! Maple Leaf defensemen Simon Benoit stopped by to chat with us after Leafs practice on Friday, to discuss how he's feeling about his game heading into the season, what we can expect from our towering D-core and what life is like since welcoming his baby girl! He gave us some incredible insights, and we are so excited to be able to share the conversation with all of you!

Post interview, we take our Quick Hit look at the Leafs this week. In these bonus episodes, we'll be taking a bit of a deeper dive on the games played as well as a look ahead to what is coming up for the Blue and White each week. While there are no games in the books yet, for this inaugural Quick Hit episode, we explore player dynamics, roster decisions, and the importance of goaltending depth as we head into the NHL season.

The excitement surrounding the opener is definitely building and we are so excited for the games to begin! Having Simon Benoit on with us to preview it for you, well, words can't express how grateful we are to have had the chance to speak with him and share the conversation with you, and we thank the Maple Leafs for making him available to us.

We are now just over a week away from the Leafs opener on October 9th. Before we get there though the Leafs have some decisions to make and we’re going to get into all that and more in this episode!

This week will no doubt end with some key questions answered, as the team makes their final cuts to reveal their 2024/25 roster. Welcome to our 6th season talkin’ Leafs!

In this episode of Ladies Talkin' Leafs, its all about the pre-season, as we discuss training camp expectations, and highlight the excitement surrounding some of our rookie prospects, opening the show with a puck drop primer Q & A.
