Perhaps the most substantive halfisode we’ve done thus far, this is our retrospective on the 2015-16 Best Original Song category featuring Lady Gaga vs Sam Smith, The Weekend, Anohni, and Sumi Jo with a majestic orchestra conducted by Michael Caine. Youth, Racing Extinction, Fifty Shades of Grey, Spectre, and The Hunting Ground are the films i our discussion. Both film & music critics were outraged after Sam Smith took the award, and in the year of hashtag OscarsSoWhite, the Academy furthered a season of utter discontent when they failed to invite a pair of these nominees to perform at the ceremony. It was worse than bad PR, and you’ll be shocked to know how low they could go in hopes of a few ratings points that never came their way.
