Cindy Ho landed her first golf head coaching job at Longwood College in 1992, following the legendary Dr. Barbara Smith. Fresh out of graduate school, Cindy embraced the challenge. Her Lady Lancer golfers won national championships in 1993 and 1995, and 10 golfers were named All-American 18 times. Now, in her 24th season at UNC-Wilmington, she has won seven conference titles and advanced to the NCAA regionals eight times. A native of Canada, she received her United States citizenship in May 2024. Four-time All-American Karla Roberson (Rasmussen), Longwood '98, also comments on her former coach.

Terri Sawyer is synonymous with playing, coaching and officiating, mostly field hockey. As a senior, she led Longwood College (now Longwood University) to a sixth-place finish in the 1975 AIAW/National Field Hockey Assoc. tournament. The '75 team was named to the 2026 LU Athletic Hall of Fame. Terri taught health and physical education for 30 years in the Virginia Beach Public Schools and coached prep soccer for 19 years. The Virginia Beach native officiated high school field hockey for 46 years and on the college level. Now, she competes in US Senior Pickleball tournaments in Virginia and along the East Coast.

For Scott Abell, coming to Longwood in the fall of 1988 was an easy decision. Former Longwood Baseball coach Buddy Bolding made him an offer he could not refuse. In his four-year career, the Lancer catcher compiled a .336 batting average and led the Lancers to the final four of the 1991 NCAA Division II CWS. Shortly after graduation, he reunited with his first love, football. After coaching high school and college teams to conference and state championships, he is in his first year as the Dunlevie Family head coach at Rice University in Houston TX.

Known at Longwood as Billy Dunn (Class of '91), William's story is one of the ages. Growing up in challenging neighborhoods, he defied the odds and earned his Associates, Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate while fueling his passion for philanthropy. As founder of the Dunn Foundation, William received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024 for his community outreach in Southern California and Metro Washington DC.

With her speed and athleticism, she developed into a two-time All-American and a member of the US National Team. As a member of Longwood College's first softball team in 1981, Lynne Gilbert remembers the humble beginnings. After Longwood, she poured her love for teaching and coaching into a 39-year career with Chesterfield County Public Schools. Coach Gil may be best known for her 18 years as the Head Coach of the Manchester High School Softball where she won seven district titles and a state championship in 1996. Lynne, now retired, teaches drivers education.
