A giant snake encircles the party in the swamp and calmly explains they will make a "worthy offering." That's the moment a simple Quagmash errand becomes a full-on survival story in this Land of Eem tabletop RPG actual play, where the best weapons are wit, panic, and whatever questionable abilities are buried on a character sheet.

We start by celebrating the release of our book series Dungeoneer Adventures, then jump back into the swamp with one simple mission: get our poisoned duck, Ducky, to real medical help in Skiff. The problem is the road is stacked with hazards, including Corzag the Sargog, shrublings who offer shelter strictly on their terms, and a cavern full of Hmong that forces a root-crossing skill challenge where every roll comes with consequences. Along the way, the party debates chasing treasure rumors like a Sarpathy temple or keeping their heads down long enough to finish the job.

The comedy escalates, but the choices still matter. Rations disappear, exhaustion sets in, and a chaotic stowaway joins the party when a baby mung ends up in a pack. There's a quieter turn too, as Dwynne opens up about Bogtown and why she runs with the puddle jumpers, planting seeds for where this campaign heads next.

A swamp job sounds simple until the swamp gets a vote. This Land of Eem actual play episode kicks off with big news about our latest chapter book release, then dives into tabletop RPG chaos in the Quagmash: busted infrastructure, missing miners, and a foreman-engineer who can fix a broken compass, but only in exchange for something rare and waterproof.

That something is inkpot spider webbing. Which means barrels, river travel, and the world's worst question: what does a sentient spider want in trade? The supply run becomes a full comedy of errors, from a depot shopping crawl and a "Save the swamp" recruitment pitch to an ambush of sticky gutter snail mucus that turns simple movement into a panic puzzle.

Then the sandbox really opens up. The party rescues a stranded shrimp named Dwyn from saberfish waters, survives a blinding mucklin bat swarm, and follows a lost duck trail straight into spider territory. Cornered by inkpot spiders, they talk fast, lie faster, and improvise a "quack sickness" scam with trick gum that escalates all the way to an audience with the spider queen. They roll out with barrels of webbing, but victory has a price: a poisoned, half-suffocated duck and a lead on a very questionable healer, Dr. Puerto Rico.

A hidden door with a brass nose stares back at the party from deep in the Lost Willows—and the only way through is to smell like the right recipe. What starts as a simple dungeon crawl quickly turns into a chaotic puzzle as the party hunts the outcast Tricky Toe gangster Harn Twinbeard. His swamp hideout is designed to waste time, drain supplies, and make us question every ally we’ve brought along.

The search begins with a secret entrance carved into a tree, shelves of suspicious hooch, and a bedroll decoy stuffed with strange sweet black mushrooms. A dangerous “negabolt” padlock pushes the party into some reckless chemistry before we finally descend into the tunnels below. That’s where we discover the Wiff Lock 9000—a bizarre smell-based lock that requires the right ingredients to open. Naturally, the solution involves a chaotic produce heist, questionable allies, a dratch tossed into the water, and a frantic escape from an angry doggard.

When the lock finally clicks open, the reward is huge: an office full of records, including a bribery ledger hinting at corruption across the county and a Tricky Toe cant dictionary that might reveal the gang’s hidden messages. But the victory is short-lived. Deeper in the tunnels we find traps, grim iron cells, and an escape route that leads to a tense swamp pursuit.

The episode ends with the party face-to-face with Harn Twinbeard, attempting to convince him to help bring down the Tricky Toes—right as the dreaded black drake makes its presence known.

The Lost Willows are the kind of swamp where direction stops meaning anything, the air itself carries dread, and you can wander in circles like the land is laughing at you. In this episode of our Land of Eem Actual Play, the party continues the search for Harn Twinbeard while trying to survive poison, stink, and a black drake that keeps swooping in like a flying fire marshal with teeth.

But their real objective still lurks deep in the swamp: finding Harn Twinbeard somewhere in the Lost Willows, all while a deadly black drake stalks the region.

Once inside the hunting party, the Land of Eem sandbox and hex crawl mechanics start shaping the journey. Travel rolls lead to unexpected camps, supplies begin to dwindle, and even simple decisions about rations become meaningful pressure on the road. Then the party discovers a mysterious stone fountain that changes everything—introducing yellow slime, strange new abilities, and an unsettling reminder that the Lost Willows are full of bizarre magic.

When the hunt finally begins, things go sideways fast. The drake strikes hard, poison spores fill the air, and the party quickly learns the difference between bravery and stubbornness. As combat turns grim, survival depends on pure improvisation: swinging from hanging vines, manipulating environmental hazards, and deploying a cursed pencil that gives the monster a very inconvenient new obsession.

The session ends with the party dragging a poisoned Hinterlander into hiding, spinning a desperate story to keep themselves alive—while the black drake remains very much at large.

A swamp tavern, a bad plan, and a living tower that beats like a heart—this episode of our family-friendly Land of Eem TTRPG Actual Play goes from jokes to jeopardy fast. Joined by Bellow and Chini, we journey south to reach Dark Shroom Tower, a cult stronghold sealed behind Fungals that only open to foul words. The bluff works… until it doesn’t. When the elder’s telepathy tears the lie apart, the door slams shut and we’re trapped inside, forced to turn the environment into our greatest weapon.

From acoustics for a sonic strike to torching the mycelium ceiling before it can regenerate, the battle becomes a puzzle of tactics, timing, and creative chaos. Crystal swords flash. The elder heals as quickly as we can wound. And then comes the most absurd Land of Eem solution imaginable: feeding laxatives to the tower itself to purge the corruption. It works—at a cost. The Dark Shroom’s essence floods into Hooch, making him the new locus of power as the cult kneels in stunned reverence. What follows is decisive and cathartic: hosts severed from parasites, thralls freed, and an elder seeking penance among the Fungals. For the first time, the living tower falls silent.

We stay to handle the aftermath—free fifteen prisoners, calm the shaken, and carve a safe road home. The loot haul is practical (a halberd, boots, a wizard hat, coin, and a fresh “Charge” trick), but the true reward is a community saved and a corrupt root chopped clean through. Seth and Fran choose river country, love, and rest, while the party shoulders the next leg of the journey across the Mucklands.
