A New And Fresh Reindeer Tale
Some Reindeer Never Learn -- At Least Not Till Christmas Morning!
That's the spirit of "The Bad Reindeer," written and narrated by Daniel Parr.
The joy of the verse, the fun, and the energy of the narrator make this an easy listening experience for both parent and child. Written in the tradition of "The Night Before Christmas," this book features plenty of antic behavior (even a fart joke) that will entertain boy and girl alike. But it also teaches that being bad has consequences -- and not just those involving a punitive lack of good presents on Christmas morning.
Daniel (and his enhanced soundtrack of music, sound effects, and "extras") is energetic and inclusive. Children will never feel alone while listening.
One note that often accompanies an audio book for kids: the story is GREATLY enhanced by the illustrations of Mark Sean Wilson. "The Bad Reindeer" is best enjoyed with both audio and paper book in hand.

    Publisher's Summary:
When summer heats up, animals find ways to stay cool. In A Cool Summer Tail, animals wonder how humans stay cool, too. Do they dig under the dirt, grow special summer hair, or only come out at night? Four Stars
A good book for the activity I was doing in class.
This is a nice introduction to animal cooling methods young students will enjoy ...
Three fox kits scampered around in the grass playing as their mother watched over them. It was warm and in order to cool themselves they would âhang out their tonguesâ and breathe rapidly. They were wondering how humans kept cool on hot summer days. No, they werenât quite like fox kits. âNo panting! No puffing! / No âhuh, huh, huh huffing!â / They sweat through their skin when itâs hot.â During the days that the temperatures rose, every creature, including human ones had their own ways of keeping cool. The little painted turtle too wanted to know if humans splashed in the water and slid âinto ponds under awnings of fronds.â
No, they didnât splash around in the water like a painted turtle. Many creatures in the wild wanted to know just what those human critters did to stay cool. The little chickadees sat on a branch in front of their Mama wondering the same thing. âDo they perch in the shade / under leaves dappled jade / with their feet curling âround a branch?â No, they werenât quite like little chickadees. Perhaps they were like the black bear, deer, honeybees, squirrels, butterflies, snakes, frogs, or the hummingbird. Each animal had their own special way of keeping themselves cool, but just how did those humans do it?
This is a nice introduction to animal cooling methods young students will enjoy. The tale, presented as a story in rhyme, teaches about each animal or insect after they pose the question âHow do humans stay cool in the summer, Mama?â Two rhyming stanzas on opposite pages lets the reader know how each creature stays cool during those hot summer days. The artwork is vividly colored, bold, and has definite kid-appeal with baby animals. Newly independent readers can tackle this beginning nonfiction book with a bit of assistance with unusual words such as âsplinters.â In the back of the book are four pages of activities. Additional activities can be downloaded and printed from the publisherâs website. This would be an excellent book to read and discuss in the homeschool or classroom setting.

    Anything to say COOL!
My Review: This is a sequel to A Warm Winter Tail. It tells how animals adapt to seasonal changes. Animals like red fox, painted turtle, black capped chickadee, black bear, white tailed deer, honeybee, grey squirrel, garter snakes and many more.
Each animal ask the same question, âHow do humans stay cool in the summer, Mama?â
The fox would like to know how humans stay cool in the summer, as they hang out their tongues and breathe fast in and out. Mamaâs answer was that humans do not pant, puff or huff as they sweat through their skin when itâs hot.
The turtles slide into ponds and under awnings of fronds when itâs hot but humans swim in clear water to keep cool.

Great book for desert habitat unit
Studying habitats in the second grade and this book was a wonderful addition to our classroom library.
    FUN READ
A fun read which teaches children about the desert in an easy-to-remember rhyme. The illustrations are beautiful. My children loved it!
    introduces students to desert life
We normally think of a desert as a hot, dry place where humans cannot survive for long, so are there any plants and animals that live in the desert? You bet there are! Author Rhonda Lucas Donald uses several traditional children's songs and poems to tell about different flora and fauna that flourish in the deserts around the world. There are the lesser long nosed bat, the meerkat (Timon of The Lion King), the desert tortoise, the fennec fox with its big ears, the thorny devil (similar to a horned lizard), the gila monster, the ostrich, the Bactrian camel (can you guess one or two humps?), the javelina or collared peccary, the tarkawara (similar to a kangaroo rat), and, of course, the saguaro cactus.
Deep in the Desert is an extremely catchy way to introduce young students to life in the desert. It is amazing to learn how various plants and animals adapt to such harsh conditions and then to see them so brilliantly illustrated by Sherry Neidigh. In the back are six pages of activities such as further information about the desert habitat, desert fun facts, a map to locate the deserts of the world and find the answers to some questions, and matching the desert adaptations. Additional learning activities may be obtained at the publisher's website, including sheet music for the songs. I have to agree with an observation from the inside front flap that this book makes learning about deserts anything but dry.
    Desert Animals
    My Review:
This is a story about animals in the desert where the author used nursery rhyme songs to tell about the desert habitat and its flora and fauna. For example, Deep in the Desert may be sung to "Down in the Valley" or The Camel with Two Humps may be sung to "The Itsy, Bitsy Spider". Travel the desert and learn about nose bats, desert tortoise, fennec fox, meerkat, thorny devil and many more.
Deep in the Desert includes six pages of learning activities about For Creative Minds (go to <...>), The Desert Habitat, Desert Fun Facts, Deserts of the World i.e. a map location of the deserts and Match the plant or animal Adaptations with questions and answers. The illustrations are colorful and show each desert animal in its habitat.
Deep in the Desert is a spring 2011 release from Sylvan Dell Publishing.Great for classroom teaching.

Kids Should be Aware of Glaciers!
About: The Glaciers are Melting! is a childrenâs picture book written by Donna Love and illustrated by Shennen Bersani. This book was published on 2/10/2011 by Arbordale Publishing, hardcover, 32 pages. Please see more info about the author below. Arbordale Publishingâs mission is to inspire the love of reading and improve young childrenâs science and math skills through picture books. These books will captivate your kidsâ minds on your lap, at bedtime, or in the classroom.
My Experience: I read this book for my 5-year-old son on 12/3/16 as an afternoon story time. This book introduces different animals and their names. The story repeats a lot, which is a good learning tool for kids, but the animals didnât tell a story of why the glaciers are melting or explore the reason why the glaciers are melting so the story was not very interesting. We both like the pictures in this book. We also like the explanations at the end of the book about what glaciers are and where in the world glaciers exists. We like the advices on how we can take part in slowing down the climate change. I think if these facts & advices were told by these animals, the reading would have been more interesting.
Pro: last few pages of the book has facts of animals and what glaciers is, pretty pictures, animals and their names,
Con: the animals only voice their concerns but doesnât take corrective actions
    I rate it 4 stars!
***Disclaimer: Thank you Arbordale Publishing for the opportunity to read & review. Please be sure that my opinions are honest.

Super cute book about the changing climate. AR test was of medium difficulty level
    Caldecott Gold Contender
I followed this illustrator's work for some time, but this latest combination of illustrator, writer, and environmental issue works in a way that is seen in the world's top award winning children's picture books. What a fabulous book this is. It's about a huge and serious problem we're all facing on this earth - significant climate change and the disappearance of glaciers and their surrounding ecosystems and animals. What a beautifully written story and terrific fine art illustrating for children of all ages. Children 2-4 will love the pictures and hearing the story over and over. They will be captivated by the pictures, for sure. Children 5-8 will want to read it again and again while laughing out loud when the wolverine goes for a plunge. Children 9-11 will love it for the story and the beautiful art and scenes, while further appreciating the important ecological story the book portrays. Adults will sneak off with this book while sipping coffee or tea and will keep looking at the beautiful and realistic art, scenes, and animals. They will also re-read it to themselves over and over and will likely become motivated to help reduce the climate change issues described in the book.

This is the only book my Debbie will read! the pictures were remarkable and well written! I think she has memorized it by heart....and I need a new copy!
Pollen is IMPORTANT for so many reasons all of which Baby Bear finds out in this fun and educational picture book
Shennen Bersani gets to the heart of allergy season and the people and animals who suffer from it.
Pollen sufferers want the pollen gone but if that happens, then our entire ecosystem collapses, several species at a time. Pollen is IMPORTANT for so many reasons all of which Baby Bear finds out in this fun and educational picture book, 'Achoo! Why Pollen Counts'.
Colorful, realistic illustrations bring the book alive as numerous forest animals, Ladybug, Spiderling, Honeybee and Snow Owl give Baby Bear short lessons in why pollen is important.
Shennen incorporates facts educating children on the parts of flowers, what an allergy is and the pollination process throughout the story and in more detail at the end of the book. For parents and teachers and librarians, she offers activities and creative ventures for use of the book as well.
Honeybee populations are declining which becomes catastrophic if continues. The plight of the honey bee and bees in general rely on us humans to keep them going. Educate yourself and children, read this book and share it with others. We can help the honeybees.
All of the creatures are clear and beautifully realized. This isn't only a book for explaining ...
Baby Bear awakes to a warm gold-covered spring day and the sniffles. He's allergic to pollen and hates it! But as the vole, mama bear, zebra butterfly, spiderling and other forest creatures explain how pollen works and why it's important, Baby's irritation turns to understanding.
Bersani explains a complex subject straightforwardly and accompanies it with magical illustrations. All of the creatures are clear and beautifully realized.
This isn't only a book for explaining the way flowers and animals work together to sustain each other. There's also a wonderful section with activities for children guided by adults on flower parts, what allergies are, the pollination process, and the importance of bees as pollinators, and what kids can do to help them along. The author/illustrator has paintstakingly vetted the book with expert input, and combined it kid-friendly devices like alliteration and onomatopoeia. A wonderful resource that beautifully encourages children to care for the world around them, and casts participating adults in the expert role with the help and resources of this well sourced book.
This is a fun, fascinating book that will teach young children about pollen and why we need it ...
Baby Bear's eyes looked swollen and itchy and he came out of his den. Rub, rub, rub! Even his little nose ran and his eyes watered from all the pollen in the air.

A great way to teach landforms!
This is a beautifully written and illustrated book that teaches different types of landforms. It's educational but the lyrical, rhyming text also makes it a fun read, so kids and parents will enjoy reading it together -- "A tranquil valley sits between two mountains, with a floor of green. Flowers dance in wind that blows and through it all, a river flows." Perfect for both school and home, this is a book that kids will want to read over and over!
    Five Stars
    Great book and very educational!
Fun way to learn science concepts!
A wonderful book about land forms. What I love most is that it works on multiple levels - catchy rhymes and colorful illustrations to help young children learn the science behind landforms, plus extra pages in the back to expand on these science concepts on a more advanced level. Perfect for grades K-2.
    Excellent book for learning landforms
I read this book to a first grade class as they learned about landforms. The kids loved the gorgeous illustrations and short rhyming text. We're about to have a school break and the kids talked about where they were going and what kind of landform it was. I can't wait to read more books from this talented duo.
    Love it!
This is one of my two year old niece's favorite books! It is a clever, educational, rhyming story accompanied by beautifully detailed and colorful illustrations. I recommend it!

Myro - The Smallest Plane In The World!
I got the series of Myro books on a whim but they've turned out to be a big hit with my kids. The books are very colourful, using sort of 3D graphics that jump out of the page, which fits the characters - lots of planes and of course Myro zooming about. It's all set in Australia, mostly around Sydney. The stories range from light to quite dramatic. The bush fire one is pretty intense! I think that's the one that got the kids hooked. I also like the factual wildlife information that's included in each book which makes them a learning thing too. I would definitely recommend Myro!
