Crazy Quilt of suspense

Security consultant/psychologist/pi Abby Sinclair investigates a case that challenges the tenuous bonds of her relationship with FBI agent and frenemy Tess McCallum. Abby is retained by congressman Jack Reynolds to investiage a female stalker. In so doing, she learns that the congressman is a criminal and is drawn into a mystery involving murder, adultery and betrayal. By assisting Abby, Tess joins the investigation in LA. It seems that the feds have an insider feeding them information about the Congressman. A sexual sadist with ties to the barrio he escaped from years before, the congressman is a believable villian. He is manipulative, egotistcal and understands that surface means more than substance. Tess fears that her invstigation is on a collision course with Abby and she must chose between doing the right thing and doing the right thing for Abby. Traps are sprung and secrets revealed.

Michael Prescott always delivers fast paced stories kand interesting plots. Unfortuantely, in this

book the crazy quilt never quite comes together. Tess is a downer, staid, uninteresting and hypocritical. She sucks the life out of the story and is almost irrelevant. Abby is far more interesting and exciting but she seems more on edge than edgey in this outing. The feds and their bickering and politics were just annoying. The informant's identity was a stretch and the ultimate resolution was pat. Still, this book is still alot of fun.

A Winner

Let me say upfront that I enjoy Michael Prescott a lot. I've read many of his books and while I've liked some more than others, I have yet to be seriously disappointed in anything he's written. That being said, I enjoyed Mortal Faults as much if not more than anything I've read by him before. I was familiar with both of the central characters from his previous works and was looking forward to seeing them together again. I liked the writing, the twists and turns of the plot, and the feeling that I was learning more about characters that I've come to know. Look, I don't give many five star reviews, but this book gets one because it's well written, suspenseful, and a terrific read. I can't really ask for more. I fully expect to see these two to cross paths again and I'll be looking forward to it. I recommend this book.

Thriller

This mystery/thriller is full of action from the first paragraph to the end! Extremely strong female character Abby does not fear being in harm's way and seeking the truth. I loved this book and am now reading a lot of this writer's work. Although I had never heard of this writer, I first purchased a Michael Prescott kindle book special through Amazon just to try because of the great reviews. I have not been disappointed. I now recommend his books to friends, and I look forward to reading more of his work.

Why hire narrator who mangles French?

Good story as usual but the mangled French made me grit my teeth. Couldn't even pronounce Aimee correctly. Being able to pronounce the protagonist's name correctly should be the first thing they check for when hiring a narrator.

The subplot about the 14th century glass-making guilds was fascinating. I appreciate the background research that the author puts into her work.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The mystery mother finally speaks! Cannot wait to see if she pops up in the next book.

Finally a Narrator Worthy of the Series!

I really love this excellent series and have read every book since I met the author at a writers conference years ago. I've tried a couple of audiobook editions, but have not enjoyed the experience until Ms. Gibel came on board. This narrator adds to the story in most positive ways. She seems an excellent fit, and I hope she continues in future audiobook editions.

Narrator ruined the listening experience!

I have enjoyed listening to the Aimée Leduc series as I go about the mundane tasks in my life - driving, shopping, cleaning, etc. This installment, however, was painful to listen to, thanks to the narrator. As the books take place in Paris, French phrases and names are peppered throughout. The narrator of the previous books in the series, Carine Montbertrand, did a wonderful job of pronouncing the French and seamlessly working it into a sentence. This narrator sounded like a high school French student, not a native. Every time she pronounced a French word or phrase, she managed to mangle and garble it to the point that it was a distraction. I found myself gritting my teeth and correcting her, sometimes out loud. I may sound like a snob here, but I'm not saying I could do better - I'm not a native speaker, and you wouldn't want to hear me try to narrate. But I did expect that the producers of this audiobook would hire someone who could PRONOUNCE THE PROTAGONIST'S NAME when they hired a professional narrator.

truly amazing read

What did you like most about The Whisperers?

As usual, John Connolly has readers/listeners on the edge of their seats, Charlie Parker is such a believable character who leaps from the page.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Hardings other performances? How does this one compare?

Jeff Harding is the perfect narrator for Charlie Parker, have only listened to one of the series that was not narrated by him, and I did not enjoy it as much.

Brilliant, peculiar and disturbing.

The Charlie Parker series isn't my usual fare. Jack Reacher or Elvis Cole types usually flip my switch, but John Connolly's books are curiously compelling.

Some of the stuff in the series is standard detective novel gear. Louis seems to be borrowed from Hawk in the Spencer books, and Angel gives brief comic interludes. The underlying evil of the bad guys, however, leaves the reader both abhorred and intrigued.

Love this series!!

I cannot recommend this author and the Charlie Parker series highly enough. The characters are so alive you live every moment with them. Heaven help anyone who interrupts when I'm listening. I have to say though that Jeff Harding makes any book come to life, there's been many an author I've loved but can't listen to because of the narrator. I think Jeff could read me a shopping list!!

Love the Charlie Parker books, and Mr Harding's performance does them more than justice.

Highly recommended for those after a little shiver and a giggle.

Easy listening

The narrator was ok, women's his voices were a bit ridiculous but surprisingly not irritating. Would recommend for an easy read.

I liked this book after I tried a couple of times to start it. I am not sure why I couldn't get started, either I wasn't in a reading mood or I had started something else. I enjoy the Amish characters and the drama of their beliefs in trying to solve a murder mystery. I would read another of his books. I rated it a 3 or if I could a 3 1/2 because it was an easy read and I just enjoyed it for the story.

I marked a 5 because I really like the series. Last night I began the latest book and am sorry that I might have to wait a year for another.I am not marking the rest of the books, for it would be a repetitive "GREAT" for the entire series. I have read other authors with Amish-centered characters, but none will compare.

Separate From the World

The P. L. Gaus books take place in the Ohio Amish country and since we live in Ohio and visit this part of Ohio several times a year, I am familiar with most of the towns, roads and businesses, etc. that are mentioned in the series of books. Also, the stories are based on the Amish lifestyle which is very interesting to those of us whom the Amish call "English". The author's books indicate that he has done much research into the lifestyle of the Ohio Amish.

I enjoy these stories because they are based in Ohio and about the Amish. Also the stories are built around the same non Amlsh people. Also the mystery of each story.

absolutely Sensational !!!!

I have read Janet Evanovich's books for years and find the Stephany Plum books so hysterically funny.... Listening to the stories now on audio is a great sole relaxer...Comedy at it's best, brilliantly dramatised by the narrator, leaves me utterly engrossed and entertained... From Grandma Mazer, to Ranger via Plum's mishaps with Lula.... Just love, love, love this book and the whole manic Plum, the Bounty Hunter misfortunate sagas !!! just wonderful! thank you ....

Janet Evanovich - Explosive Eighteen

Explosive Eighteen, whilst predictable (after all it is the eighteenth book about Stephanie Plums chaotic world), has still got the wonderful panoply of misfits brought to life by Lorelei Kings narration. She captures the quirkiness of each character in her delivery that make listening as much joy as reading the novels themselves.

Good author, good narrator.

I have always enjoyed the Stephanie Plum novels, and the narrator is one of my favourites, therefore that makes this story a great combination. Top marks.

Keeps You Guessing

Great mystery thriller. Narrator is great as usual. All characters are dynamic. The is a really evil guy you will love to hate.

Fun read

This was a fund read that held my interest. I would recommend this book for a light listening experience. Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators.
