Another delightful holiday in Scotland

Lesley Mackie has added her gentle Scots accent to another of D. E. Stevenson's delightful novels set mainly in Scotland. This story, of The Marriage Of Katherine (the U.S. title for this novel) lets the modern listener travel to Scotland and camp by a lovely loch, shop in Edinburgh and visit its famous "Castle", and experience the joys and sorrows of newly married life. Like all of D. E. Stevenson's novels, this book is a pleasure to listen to, and Lesley Mackie helps it along.

I can only hope that soon we will get audio versions of the two books that come before this. Katherine's Marriage is a direct sequel to Katherine Wentworth, starting just a few days/weeks after the end of that book so I hope that plans to produce an audiobook version of Katherine Wentworth are in the works. Katherine's Marriage also makes reference to an early novel by D. E. Stevenson, Smouldering Fire, with overlaping characters and locations, and an audiobook version of that early novel would by wonderful as well.

Must Read Sequal to Katherines Marriage

Another beautiful story with a great narrator. Anything By this author is well worth getting.

I have read ALL of D.E. Stevenson's books over the past 50 years .Many several times

over,and I have to say" Listening "to them adds to the pleasure of the experience.

If you like good old fashioned writing that does not depend on sex and violence to carry the story then try any thing by this author. I would LOVE to see more titles added to the list of choices from Audible.

A sweet romance

D E Stevenson is the master of the simple but charming story, with every-day characters and happy endings. She is my go-to author for frazzled days. Katherine's Marriage has many lively moments, likable people, the dreadful Zelda, and deals with a modern problem - the blended family. The narration is excellent.

I enjoyed this very much

I enjoyed this very much. The story was good, funny at the right times and suspenceful at other times. Elizabeth Livingston has a very good voice and does the voices so well I knew who was speaking without her having to say. The romance was perfect. The heroine wasn't fooled for one minute by the Navy "Ken's" god like good looks.

Much better story than I anticipated...

This was everything you might want in a romantic fiction work - well written, good narration and an interesting story line. I totally enjoyed it. Lucky, who initially seemed a bit shallow, ended up being a solidly likable character. Just enough suspense to keep you guessing!

Disappointing

It was slow moving, used too many descriptive words: A writer needs to effectively explain a particular place or situation without sounding like an ingredients enumeration. The words used should be engaging and easy to understand, and the sentence structure should keep you glued in and engaged to the story till the end.

The words were easy to understand, but sounded more like an ingredient list when explaining the handsomeness of Lucky, or Sid's attributes, which permeated the book, and too much time spent on what I call "filler words" with scenes that added nothing to the story, but, in fact, detracted from it. Not enough investigating for an INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER and Navy Seal heading up the INVESTIGATION. It would have made the story more interesting than hearing so much about Lucky's looks and charm.

I was disappointed.

The female lead is a smart and independent lady. ..she attracts and develops a friendship with the male lead due to being appointed to an investigative committee. At first he was a bit of a turkey, and she gets indignant at him when he tries to dazzle her into doing things his way by kissing her. She puts him in his place and he then has to work with her, not around her. I thought the development of their relationship made sense as Lucky gained some more depth of character as he experienced the anguish of awareness of the brutality of sexual assault. The plot was not totally predictable. I liked this book.

Too much angst

This had a good story base but it got tiring listening to "he doesn't love me, even if he says he does - how could anyone love me". Then repeat the last sentence with 'she' instead of 'he'.

It just kept up until the very last paragraph. The story line was good.

REISSUED BOOK WITH NEW TITILE

This was a complete rip-off. It is a Cedar Grove Christmas!!!! When I contacted the Debbie Macomber web-site, I was told that 8 Poppy Lane and a Cedar Grove Christmas were reissued as a paperback because some people will not buy a hardback and if I had read her newsletter I would have known so.

Good story

I liked this Audiobook, as I have enjoyed others in the McKettrick series. They are enthralling and if you listen to them in your car, you won't want to turn it off to get out. The only thing that I didn't like was that the only African American characters in the entire series it seems, are a maid and a chauffeur. We have a come a long way past servitude.

It is a one time only story, which I would no recommend to friends, but enjoyed her other books.

The story and narrator both kept me entertained easily. And there is an ongoing, though mild, amount of humor that was quite enjoyable. But I must say--based on the author's description of the chauffeur--she reeeeaaallly must work on her ability to describe people of color. It left a lot to be desired and detracted from a good story.

Second chance for love

Would you consider the audio edition of McKettrick's Heart to be better than the print version?

No, but it does bring the characters of the story to life. You get to understand how they are feeling about each other and the challenges they are facing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of McKettrick's Heart?

I like the trail ride where all the relatives get to know each other and Molly gets to ride her first horse.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Molly patches up Keegan after he has a fight with his cousins, and tells him to grow up. It seems at this point the characters start to fall in love

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment that moved me is when Psyche makes believe she change her mind about letting Molly adopt Lucas. She kinda forces Molly and Keegan to marry.

This was a nice conclusion to the series, but I always want more McKettrick.

Couldn't stop listening

This is a well written story that could easily be made into a movie. What really got me was the way the Narrator brought the story and Characters to life any time someone spoke you knew who it was so I will be looking for more audio books narrated by Kimberly Jajuan. Great Listen.

Lovely

A lovely story if you just want to listen to LOVE. Nothing more and nothing less. I have enjoyed it after listening to a few very heavy books. This one was Pure Relaxation.

The voice of the Narrator just belongs to story, a great combination.

Catherine Anderson has a special way of making you fall in love with her characters. Each story is written so well and with such amazing detail. I love the way she moves the story along, not spending too much time on the insignificant situations and really elaborating on all the special ones. The Kendrick/Coulter Series is one of my most favorites of all time!

Unforgettable Gut-wrenching Love Story

What a book! You never forgot a book that makes you cry and feel gut wrenching emotion. I was sorry to see it end. I stayed up the whole night to complete. Ryan and Bethany had a passionate, all consuming love. You could not help but root for both of them as they work through their many trials and tribulations. Both characters were very likable and the narrations was flawless. I am definitely interested in the rest of the series. .

I have read and listened to other Diana Palmer books in the past, and I enjoyed the first, but it seems like they just keep getting worse and worse. This book had me gagging at points because the hero was so awful.

He was a jerk (to put it mildly) and completely and utterly selfish. He didn't care what he put the heroine through as long as he was okay. The heroine (Grace) was in general a semi-likable character except for the fact that she let the hero walk all over her. Not only that, but even when she once or twice got angry over the way she was treated, she ends up forgiving him by saying "it wasn't his fault that she loved him but he didn't love her." Well, sure. Okay. But it was his damn fault that he was an a**hole about it. And I'm not the kind of person who normally curses, but if this guy really existed I wouldn't have hesitated to tell him what I really thought.

I had zero sympathy for him and maybe a teaspoonful for her.

And for me, characterization is the main reason I like any story/book. The fact that I could only tolerate her and could barely even get through the book because I hated the hero so much was horrible. The only reason I finished it was to see if there was any possible way he could redeem himself by the end, and I found that for me, he could not. Even when they finally get together for real, it's still all about him, him, him. If she gets hurt, how will it affect him. If something happens to her, well, *he* just couldn't go on. Never mind the fact that, you know, she's hurt or dying, it only matters how that affects his life.

Gah.

As for the performance, the narrator was not my favorite. His female voices were pretty bad, though his narrating of the descriptive scenes and the males was not bad. It was just difficult to listen to him as any of the female characters.

Honest

If you believe in emotional abuse this is the book for you. It is classic sick behavior. The author crafted the heroe to be unredeemable. He never took resposibility...it was her innocence and inexperience that forced him to be cruel and destructive to a vunerable, sad girl. There is no "they lived happily ever after" here. Pass this one by.

I feel cheated

I disliked this for different reasons than others perhaps. I went in knowing that the hero was going to be a prize d-bag (he was). That's partially why I read it, that and the amnesia trope. Cheesy and overdone yes, but I enjoy it.

The narrator needs to stick to YA/teen books. She sounded about 13 and there was zero attempt at a Texas accent (which was probably for the best). She also did not attempt to give different voices to different characters. Therefore, unless there were dialogue tags, it was often difficult to tell who was speaking. However, any attempt at a male voice may have been intolerable, so that may have been for the best as well.

It's weird. I've always played it rather safe in my personal love life. I have a good instinct as to who will be a safe bet and who will likely cause trouble of varying sorts. I'm not saying I've never had to deal with jerky behavior, but NEVER to such an extent as you see in these books. In real life, I could never emotionally deal with all the drama. I like things to be peaceful, quiet, stable... I'm an introvert, people wear me out and these volatile heroes would make me homicidal. However, I've found I love to vicariously and safely live some drama through media.

First of all, thumbs up to the shout out to Serenity/Firefly. They weren't mentioned by name, but if you were a fan there was no mistaking the reference.

The hero was a dbag of massive proportions and I still can't buy his reasoning. He was OTT in the verbal abuse category, which isn't my dramatic cuppa. I prefer the more ruthless type of dbag who resorts to blackmail, trickery, and perhaps some cruel accusations in jealous rage - but never someone who is so heavy handed on the belittling. He was just plain mean and hurtful to a young woman 10+ years his junior for no good reason.

Anyway, the heroine is in an accident on rainy roads after an argument with the hero which shouldn't have been an argument at all. Tellie was only there to inform him of his sister's illness, but he blew up at her when she accidentally caught him with his latest bimbo, called her ugly and basically a pathetic loser and she never even gets to tell him about his sister. So, she gets amnesia as a result of the wreck. J.B. sees this as his opportunity to make nice before she remembers. Okay, I'm game. Problem is ...

My favorite part of the amnesia trope is when the heroine remembers and is horrified at the hero and his betrayal/deception. She often freaks the heck out due to the emotional shock of it all.
